Age 82, of Stow, NY and formerly of Pittsburgh, PA, died Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at his home in Stow, NY. He was born May 21, 1937 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Harry W. and Helen Davidson Humphreys. He retired to his Chautauqua Lake home in 2011. He was a graduate of Yale University and Dickinson Law School and practiced law in Pittsburgh from 1963 until 2011. He is survived by his wife, Lori Nagle Humphreys, whom he married June 16, 1962 in New Haven, CT; three daughters, Helen V. Humphreys, of VA, Stephanie (Kevin Lucas) Humphreys, of Austin, TX, and Evelyn (John) O'Keeffe, of St. Paul, MN; one son, David John Humphreys, Jr., of Los Angeles, CA; and nine grandchildren. Lori, Helen, Stephanie, Evelyn, and David,
I am so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. He holds such a warm place in my heart from my childhood. My dad told me all about their visit together and how they reminisced about Chautauqua. They had such a good visit.
Please know that you're all in my thoughts.

Hello, Aunt Lori, Stephanie, Helen, David, and Evelyn,
We have been talking a lot about all of you and what you must be going through after losing your father/David almost overnight. We have had many conversations about how we might be able to help you with this difficult time, transform it into something that will soften the loss by bringing memories of him every time you encounter it.
We were wondering whether we could send a tree to Stowe and have you plant it in honor of your father/David. Marlane remembered that Uncle David planted an apple tree behind the kitchen on Middletown Road. Grandma often spoke of his planting it from a seedling when he was about ten years old. It had grown over the years to spread its long branches above the high back porch, and Grandma made apple pies and other goodies from its abundant fruit. She would give us the job of peeling and cutting (and sampling) the apples as she rolled out the pie dough. We don't recall what kind of apples they were (Macintosh perhaps?). Story telling aside, we wonder if you would like an apple tree to plant in Stow as a remembrance of the adventuresome, curious and talented boy who grew up into your beloved husband and father. Or possibly another kind of tree? If not, we can make contributions to one of the charities named in the beautiful obituary published in the Stow newspaper.
Please let us know your thoughts and how you are doing these days.
All our love,
Priscilla and Marlane

We will miss him coming to attend his 2 rows in the garden. Talking and giving me some advice on how to take care of my tomatoes and planting lettuce. Always smiling and saying "Good morning " . Prayers for you and the family.

I was so saddened to hear of Daves passing. The Humphreys family brings warm memories of laughter and my childhood. Horse rides, Pepperidge Farms thin-sliced white bread, the formal parlor, my first (of many) ride in the cramped back of a VW bug, and swimming in the back patio pool all bring a fond smile to my face. We have thought of you many times over the years and I always read your Christmas cards to my parents to glean the happenings of your whole family, happy times and sad.
Praying for your peace and comfort in this difficult time.
Much love, Becky (Black) Ekins

Lori,
My deepest sympathy and sincere condolences. I served with Dave for two years on the Mt. Lebanon Commission, and he was always a gentleman who nurtured a spirit of cooperation and goodwill. Dave was also a contemporary of my dad's and a fellow attorney. I believe they had a few cases together. I will let him know of Dave's passing as he nears the end of his own life's journey. RIP.

Dotty and I were very saddened to learn of Dave's passing. I was proud to have served alongside him as a member of the Mt. Lebanon Commission, where we (Dave, the late Dale Colby, the late Keith Mulvihill, Barbara Logan and I) all worked cooperatively for the good of the community. The Humphreys family can be proud of Dave's life of service. Lori, we extend our deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Dear Lori. I was so sorry to read of the death of David....I think so often of Anne -- and your whole family! Our book club, Anne's courage through her long fight with breast cancer, her wit -- and how much she loved you and her father and Sammy and her siblings and her little boy. I hope you are doing okay and that your children are there to help you through this loss. With love and admiration, Maureen McFalls Young.
