Sr. CLAIRE (MARY PAUL)
On Thursday, October 27, 2005, Sr. Claire (Mary Paul) Hinnebusch died at Mohun Health Care Center. She was born in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 23, 1920 to John and Anna Mary (Stratemeier) Hinnebusch. She entered the Novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of St. Mary of the Springs in Columbus in 1944 and made her Profession of Vows in 1948. St. Claire received a BS from St. Mary of the Springs College (now Ohio Dominican University) and an MA in Religious Studies from Providence College, Providence, RI. Most of Sister's ministry was in the Pittsburgh area. She taught at Seven Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Middletown, PA (1954-55, 1956-57); St. Aloysius, Wilmerding (1960-61); St. Brenden, Braddock (1962-66); and St. Thomas District High School, Braddock (1966-68). From 1968 to 1971 St. Clair served as Coordinator of Religious Education at a parish in Rochester, PA and as Director of Religious Education at St. Perpetual Parish, McKeesport (1971-93) and at Most Holy name of Jesus Parish, Pittsburgh (1993-94). Sister also taught in Ohio and in New York. She was manager of Just-Inn, a senior citizen facility in Pittsburgh (1994-96), and served as a nurse's aide at Shady Oaks in Gibsonia, PA, for a short time in 1996. Sr. Claire ministered at St. Alexis Rectory in Wexford, PA (1996-97) and was involved in family home care before coming to Mohun Health Care Center in 1999. Sister was preceded in death by several siblings including Dominican Fathers William, Louis, and Paul and Dominican Sisters, Regina Ann and Dorothy (Leocadia), as well as by her brothers, Raymond and Joseph and her sister Mary. She is survived by a brother, Dominican Father John Hinnebush; a sister-in-law, Margaret Hinnebusch; and several nieces and nephews. The viewing will be in the Motherhouse on Tuesday, November 1, 2005, from 3-4:30pm. A Vigil Service of Remembrance will take place from 4:30-5:30 that day with wake continuing until 6:30pm. The funeral liturgy will be on Wednesday at 9:00am followed by burial in St. Joseph's Cemetery. I am saddened by the loss of my Aunt Claire. She and all my Dominican Aunts and Uncles were always friendly and willing to pay attention to us as we grew up. I last saw her at my Uncle Gerard (Paul) Hinnebusch's funeral in New Orleans. My sympathies go to my Uncle John (Frederick) Hinnebusch.

I lived with Sr. Claire at St. Cecilia's in Rochester. We ministered in the parish as DRE's. To me, she was "Aunt Claire." I loved her wisdom and she was ahead of her times. She always looked great in her "thrift store clothes."

My deepest sympathy to her family and community.

I knew Sister from her ministry at St. Perpetua's and I was in the Office for Youth Ministry. She had a real love and concern for the young people of McKeesport. She may never have known all the good she accomplished in her lifetime but she has undoubtedly touched the lives of thousands. May God reward her for every life she had affected. The world will be a little darker without her.
