SCHERBARTH DAVID WILLIAM
On Sunday, January 20, 2019, David William Scherbarth. Born on November 6, 1958, in Baltimore, MD to Doris Scherbarth Stinefelt and Richard Scherbarth. Dave lived in Baltimore, West Hurley, NY, and Denver, CO during his childhood. He graduated from Onteora High School in 1976. Dave received a bachelor's in mechanical engineering from Union College and a master's in mechanical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. Dave worked for over 38 years at Westinghouse and then Curtiss-Wright, where he was a key contributor to technology advancements for the military, including the development of a motor/generator to launch and recover aircraft. He was one of the most respected and loved engineers at his company, one who graciously shared his experiences in mentoring tomorrow's engineers. In 1987, Dave met the love of his life, Marie Malasavage. They married in the fall of 1989. They have two sons, Matthew, 25 and Andrew, 21. For the 60 years he shared with us, Dave exemplified the best qualities of the human spirit, treating his family, friends, and coworkers with unwavering kindness and compassion. Those who knew Dave are blessed with eternal memories of his altruism and joy. He will be greatly missed. Dave is survived by his mother, Doris; and his brother, Steve, of West Hurley, NY; and his wife, Marie; and their sons, Matthew and Andrew, of Pittsburgh. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street on Friday, 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral Saturday, Mass of Christian Burial St. Bede Church, 10 a.m.

I was lucky enough to have worked with Dave on the EMALS project when I was working at Kato Engineering. He was an exceptionally bright person, but also exceedingly humble. Dave was always willing to share his expertise with anyone. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.

If CW and Westinghouse had a Mr. Rogers, it would have been Dave. I had the privilege of working with Dave for many years. Not only was he a brilliant engineer, he was one of the most kind and humble human beings that I have ever known. The engineering community suffered a great loss with his passing, but more so the community at large. May God bless Dave and his family.
