SOFIS LUCY
100, of Mt. Lebanon, died peacefully on August 19, 2011. Wife of the late George P. Sofis, owner of Sofis Corners Restaurant. Preceded in death by two sons, Epaminondas "Rick" and George G., both of Mt. Lebanon; mother of Thomas of Milan, Italy and Constantine of Scottsdale, AZ; grandmother of George T. of VA, Alexandra of Bridgehampton, NY, Diana of Mt. Lebanon, Christopher of San Francisco and Heidi of Mt. Lebanon; great-grandmother of six. Lucy came to Pittsburgh as a young bride at the age of 15 1/2, from Epirus, Greece in 1926. Born in Asia Minor, her family escaped to Epirus in 1914, during the persecution of Christian minorities in the Turkish Ottoman Empire. Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS, friends welcome at 2630 W. Liberty Ave., Dormont, 412-531-4000, on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Trisagion Service at 7 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Interment Jefferson Memorial Park. Lucy was a good neighbor. She always kept a look out for things in the neighborhood, and this was greatly appreciated. I will remember he baklava especially - best in the world. She would ask me to do little chores for her, and she'd always have a little for me.

I look forward to being in heaven with Lucy as my neighbor.

Mrs. Sofis was a kind and special lady - always offering a smile and 'pat-on-the-cheek' to a little brown-eyed girl from memories taking me back to the old church on Academy Avenue. May her memory forever be eternal in the hearts and minds of all who know and love her.
