MICHAEL SMUTNEY Obituary
MICHAEL F.
Age 64, of Diamond Bar, CA, died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2016, in his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 19, 1952, in Butler, PA, a son of Francis and Agnes Smutney. Mr. Smutney attended Canon-McMillan High School, where he played football and was selected to play in the Pennsylvania Big 33 all-star game. He was later inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame for his football achievements. He graduated from Indiana State University where he played football. He was an avid Steelers fan and enjoyed camping at the beach. Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Vicki Smutney of Diamond Bar; son, Ryan Smutney, his wife, Lesley; and grandson, Cameron Smith of Pataskala, OH; and daughter, Leslie Wagstaff and her husband, Kristopher of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Lou Cunic and her husband, Dan, Jeanne Russo and her husband, Rich; three brothers, Thomas Smutney and his wife, Barbara, Paul Smutney and his wife, Kristine and Patrick Smutney and fiancée, Paige Plunkett, all residing in the Canonsburg/Washington, PA, area. Mike is also survived by several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncle and cousins. Friends will be received Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, 6-9 p.m. with Rosary from 5-6 p.m. at MEMORY GARDEN MEMORIAL PARK & MORTUARY, 455 West Central Avenue, Brea, CA. There will be Mass of Christian Burial in St. Denis, Diamond Bar at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 16, 2016. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Pomona. Contributions may be made to St. Denis Catholic Church, 2151 S. Diamond Bar Blvd., Diamond Bar, CA 91765. Please visit www.memorygarden.com for additional information and to leave online condolences.

Our deepest sympathy to Vicki, Ryan and Leslie as well as the rest of Mike's family. Mike was one of the best bosses I have ever had and we became good friends along the way. You can't think of Pittsburgh Steelers or Penguins without thinking of Mike. He will be greatly missed.
