It is so hard to believe that it has been 10 years. my visits to Shadyside were special and Bob made them special as I always managed to purchase at least one piece of jewelry from him. He was a dear and special young man and there isn't a time that I walk by that store and don't think of him and the richness that he gave the community. I remember how he gave me a piece of pink quartz to carry with me to help healing from the death of my dear mother. He left a special legacy with the people who he touched. Grateful to have known him!!! My best wishes to his wife and girls.

I Pray You Forward
Dear Terri, Isabella and Ava,

Robert's death saddens all of us who knew him and his enormous generosity of spirit. Visits with him in his store and learning much of what I know about rocks and minerals have been sustaining through time. I cherish the memory of reading a book of Pablo Neruda's poetry about stones which he loaned me, and a particular stone he gave me in a time when I was ill. His gentleness and passion for things of this earth will live on through all of you. May you find comfort in memories and with one another. You all were truly the most cherished touch stones through his life which he shared so fully with all who knew him. My condolences.

I am so saddened to hear today about Bob. I was a client and friend for many years, both of us sharing a love for minerals. Please know that he touched my life with his knowledge and excitement about gems. He was, simply, the best.

To the Patak Family,

I offer my deepest sympathies for your loss. Bob was such a wonderful, kind and loving man who adored all of you. I went to visit Bob at the store today and was devastated to learn of his passing. What a beautiful spirit he is :) He always had a smile and a story about his family for all of us who lived in the neighbohood and stopped in to visit. Thank you for sharing Bob with us for all of these years :)
I so enjoyed his store, his teachings and his presence in Shadyside. I am keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

With much love and sympathy,

Patak Family, my sincere condolences in the loss of Bobby. I grew up in Panther Hollow and remember Bobby parking cars for the Pirates games. He knew my cousins, the Kunsmans and the Pusateris and remember playing in the playground right next to the Patak home. I am very sorry for you loss. Chuck Rapp

Bobby was someone I've known my whole life he was the best man in my parents wedding, there when I was born and threw my childhood in the hollow. When I would come back home for a visit visiting him at the store was always on the top of the list for me and my dad. He was a wonderful man and someone I'll remember forever.

We lost one of the best, my heart is heavy for Bob's family. I have so many great memmories of Bobby. On the ski slope, on the beach, and of course on the tennis courts. He was the most loving person I knew. He was so much to so many. A friend, a husband, and of course a father. "Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal". Always in my heart Bobby P, always...

I always enjoyed going to Bob's store. I have known him when he had a store in South Side. He taught me so much about gems, rocks, minerals with so much yet to learn. He will be very muched missed. There is not any store in Pittsburgh that was like his. He was always so pleasant and kind. His death was such a shock to me. My heart & prayers goes out to his family. Just remember, he will always be with you.

Bob was a wonderful, kind person who did indeed make friends easily. I loved visiting his stores & sharing stories with him. He never forgot my excitement of an upcoming Italy trip, anxious for me to return and share my adventures, and years after would ask if I had any travels planned when I'd stop by. I have a lot of wonderful memories and will cherish the pieces he 'found' for me, and especially the ones he made. Many prayers to his family, he loved you so very much.

Dear Terri, Bella, and Ava,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Bob was such a special person. Raymond said the other day that Bob was so generous. What a great word to describe him. He was generous in his love, his friendship and his knowlege (and of course in giving Raymond great rocks!). He made such a difference in Hannah's life. She has learned so much from him about life, friendship and gems. He nurtured a passion in her about rocks, gems and jewelry and of course, could do that because he shared that same passion. He touched her life like no one else ever will be able to and I'm truly grateful for that and for his presence in our lives.

Bob was one of those rare people who made friends with everyone he met. His warmth and kindness was evident in the number of people that would come in to his store just to say hello. I was one of those people. He has enriched my life in so many ways. I will truly miss him.

We were shocked to hear of Bob's passing, and wish to send our condolences to his wife and daughters, who we know meant the world to him. I got to know Bob at Patak Designs through my sister, and did business with him upon opening my own bead store. I cannot imagine going to the Tucson shows and not running into Bob! He was truly a gentleman, and will be missed by many.

Dear Terri,

It is with great sadness that we learned of Bob's passing today. Bob was a very sensitive, compassionate person who shared his knowledge and love of rocks & minerals with those of us who were his customers ...and friends. Bob updated us on the activities of your daughters every time we visited the store. He will be missed.
Our sincerest sympathies,

Dear Family:

On behalf of Sam Elkind, myself and our families, I want you know we are all grief stricken to learn of Bob's loss.

As his landlord, we have not only known and worked with him these many years to work together toward success in his business, but found us to never be in disagreement. He was always a friend; one of those rare people who succeeded to convert his passion to his work and livelihood.

We all prayed that his last surgery would be his ticket to full recovery.
We are in shock.

May He who grants peace on earth comfort you and sustain you with strength and courage to traverse this enormous trial you now face.

Our family mourns with you.

Although Bob was like a second father to me, his love for you, his family, could never be matched. Bella and Ava- you were the lights of his life and his greatest treasure I hope that his memory stays strong with you throughout your lives. Terri- you were his rock and he loved you so and appreciated everything that you did to help him, especially through the last few months. I can't put in to words how much I'll miss him.

Bob was one of those most fortunate of people whose avocation was his vocation. His knowledge and love was evident in his store and in his treatment of his customers . Many became close friends, sharing a fascination with his artistic creations and the amazing rocks and minerals that he collected and displayed . We delighted in being together and sharing moments surround by the mineral specimens he loved and the knowledge that he shared. His true gems were Isabella and Ava who will carry his intelligence , gentleness and generosity with them always.

Dear Patak family,
I knew Bob only as a customer in his wonderful Shadyside shop and always greatly enjoyed his company as I searched through his treasures. He was a warm, friendly person and an honest, principled businessman, which is no small thing in today's world. Please know that he was much admired and will be missed by many people. I hope that good memories of him will eventually bring peace to your hearts.
