Obituary Condolences


On December 3, 2018, age 88, of Ross Township, passed away. He enjoyed a productive career as an architect, working in Pittsburgh on One Mellon Bank Center, in Washington, D.C. on the Lafayette Center and in New York city at Barclays North American Headquarters. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving as a Seaman First Class on the light cruiser U.S.S. Worcester (CL 144) from 1948-1949.  After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he served for more than five years as a police officer for Shaler Township. He earned an engineering degree from Penn State University and then successfully completed the licensing exam in architecture, becoming a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the state of Ohio. After garnering his initial experience with several Pittsburgh architectural firms, he enjoyed an eight-year period with the New York architectural firm of Ellerbe Becket, with whom he completed the previously mentioned major projects.He completed his career with the Pittsburgh firm of Burt Hill/Stantec, where he was a project manager and an associate in the firm. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Metcalf Fenk; children, Robert Fenk Jr. (Donna) of Tampa, FL, Patricia Fincke (Jamie) of Uniontown, PA, Christopher Fenk (Holly) of Mogadore, OH, and S. Michael Fenk (Janice) of Cranberry Township; stepdaughters, Amy Donis and Jennifer Long; grandchildren, Melissa Hartley, Adam Fincke, Justin, Kevin, Erin and Michael Edward Fenk; along with three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by two of his ten siblings, Judy Brogan and William Fenk. Robert  was preceded in death by his grandson, Robert Fenk, III. Friends received Saturday, 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway, where memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Friends of Pittsburgh or a .
