McCULLOUGH JAMES RANKIN
Of Falmouth, MA, died surrounded by his family on Thursday, July 19, 2012, after a long illness. Jim is survived by his wife Martha and six children, Donald, Suzanne Vaughn, Gair, Peter, Stephanie Matthews, and Ian. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Justin Larson, Casey Williamson, Kathleen, Lisa, Lauren, David Larson and Brian. He is also survived by two brothers, David G. McCullough of Martha's Vineyard, MA and George R. McCullough of Pittsburgh, PA. His eldest brother was the late C. Hax McCullough, Jr. who died in 2007. He was the youngest of four boys born in Pittsburgh, PA to C. Hax McCullough, Sr. and Ruth Rankin McCullough. A graduate of Shadyside Academy and Yale University (1959 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering), Jim worked as an educator and as an engineer before settling in Falmouth to work as a physical oceanographer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute. He also shared his loves for astronomy and sailing with his children. Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., (www.freyvogelfuneralhome.com), 4900 Centre Ave. at Devonshire St., on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at 1 p.m. at Allegheny Cemetery. A Memorial Service in Falmouth, MA will be announced at a later date.
