My sympathy to all of Mike's survivors. I was a frequent listener to his radio show and, being a writer for The Pittsburgh Press, I interviewed him for a feature in our Family Magazine. Don't remember much about the story, but I do recall that Mike was a down-to-earth, interesting and cooperative person. The title was "Dear Mike Pleaseplay," because he seemed to jam those words together when reading requests, and he graciously went along with the gentle ribbing. He was fun, and he's in my prayers.

Dear Maggie and Sally,

Our sympathy in the passing of your father. I remember when your Mom taught me to make scones; being a good teacher she insisted that I do everything myself as she watched. Afterwards when we had tea with those scones your Dad, after tasting one gave me a little amile and told me to keep trying!!
Your Dad and Mom raised great children and in turn delighted in watching outstanding grandchildren grow and prosper. He gladly accepted his role in your lives and passed along his Irish Heritage to each generation.

Mike often chuckled when I told him of our family Sunday schedule when I was a child. Church at St. Rosalia, then home to listen to "The Irish Hour" with Mike Folan. It was mandatory. Sympathies to all you wonderful people whom I have the privilege of knowing. Mike's legendary ways, his love and loyalty and gentle Irish demeanor live on.

Mike Folan was one of the great teachers in my life. Through his example, I learned how to be a man, how to hold your head high and how to live with integrity. He taught me to respect a person for owho they are even if their views are quite different from your own. He also taught me not to trust the lid on a sugar dispenser. A truly great man, he will be missed.
