VICTOR NAVARRO Obituary
VICTOR E., Jr.
Age 66, formerly of Highland Park, passed away at his home in Bloomfield on Monday, June 30, 2014. Beloved son of the late Victor and Mary Grace Navarro; brother of Anthony Navarro. Victor was a prolific artist, author of three books including "Victorious Delusions" and "Shannon in the Coal Town". Victor also was a lover of art, music, film and literature, and a lifelong philosopher. He loved people and people loved him. It's an understatement to say that he will be profoundly missed. Friends received at McCABE BROS., INC. FUNERAL HOME, 6214 Walnut St., Shadyside on Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A celebration of Victor's life will be held on Thursday at the Crazy Mocha Coffeehouse, 4525 Liberty Ave., Bloomfield, at 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, family suggests contributions be made to Carnegie Museum.

Victor was one of the kindest, funniest, most intelligent people I met in Pittsburgh. I am a better writer and a better person because of the time I spent with him. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have the chance to get to know him.

I just found out about this today. Victor was my best friend when I came to Pgh. We traveled night and day for many years and had some great times together. I owe my love of Pittsburgh to Victor and I will miss him a lot. He was such a good friend and I'll never forget him. I'm so sorry, Tony!

Artist, teacher, visionary and, probably most importantly for me, "Johnny, Jr." was a really good friend to me for a lot of years. We had many good times together back then, took some fun trips, but do some pretty boring stuff too, e.g., doing a LOT of cruising around Shadyside and Oakland in one of those big Pontiacs or Oldsmobiles Victor used to drive...we were young and foolish, but then wasn't everyone? The world is a better place for you to have been here with the rest of us for a time Johnny! Send best wishes from us all to Meher Baba my friend.

I know I can't do justice to describing the memory of Victor. He was omnipresent--always kind, encouraging, and hilarious. He was the mayor of the coffeeshops he inhabited. He knew everyone, and everyone knew him. Thanks for your kindness and friendship, Victor. We won't forget you.

Growing up I knew you two as JR and Anthony and from reading all these messages I guess you are now Victor and Tony. Time changes a lot of things. All of my memories go way back to the 50s. Coming to Highland Ave to play so often and our parents having "cocktails" and dinner. Or running through the Big House on Navarro St and wonderful Aunt Jennie. We were all great friends back then. After high school we completely lost touch but I could never forget you guys.
Anthony, I am so so sorry for your loss. I loved you both and will never forget you. And it sounds like Jay lived a full life.

I always told Victor many times over the years that he was the "The Mayor of Bloomfield" because he knew so many people and was so well liked by so many including my entire family and I. With that great sense of humor and that gravelly voice Victor would respond "I better finish my coffee and get started on fixing the potholes around here". You will be missed Mr. Mayor.

Victor was an old soul brought to us to help teach and encourage (among other things) humility, respect, and inner-growth. I feel honored to have known Victor while working and living in Bloomfield. Crazy Mocha will never be the same without his presence and wit. He will be missed but never forgotten! ONE LOVE Victor!!!

I didn't know Victor personally, but through many great photos of him, taken by a friend who is a photographer. Reading the obit and some of the comments makes me really wish I had gotten the chance to know him. It sounds like he was a wonderful person. So sorry for your loss.

Victor was a meteor living amongst us mortals. He collected every piece of spacejunk along the way and made it his fiery fuel. And when his meteor collided with physical mass...look out! His impact is the stuff of legends. We may not see his glowing entity anymore, but all we need to see is the crater like dent he made and know his effect is timeless. Victor holds a special place in Pittsburgh history. He fostered so many creative people and supported us in our endeavors with enthusiasm regardless of our levels of experience. I knew him in the 60s. He had the soul of a poet then and I understand that he preserved it and took it with him, intact, despite any uglies that may have crowded his path. I hope he has finally found his long-sought garden. My best regards to all those who loved him well.

Anthony, you have my sincerest condolences. Victor meant the world to me, and to an entire community. I loved that guy. And regret not telling him more. Our little corner of the world will never be as bright, but we are all better off for having known him. Thankfully, Victor left us all with many remarkable memories. I am so sorry to hear of Victor's passing. He was incredible in the way he found to live his life on his terms. What may have been obstacles for others became sources of inspiration for him. Victor was an artist through to his bones. Well done, my friend, sleep well.

Anthony ,you have my deepest sympathy. It is hard to lose a brother and you were a wonderful loving brother to Victor. I have fond childhood memories of going to your house after school and swinging on the playset with him. He was so loved by his grandmother and the family and it is gratifying to know that he had so many friends and lived the life he wanted to live and did those things in which he was so interested. Anthony, I was shocked and saddened to learn of Victor's death. When we were young I loved going over to your house to swing on the playset with him. He was a unique person and although I have not seen him, he built a good life with his friends and I am pleased that he lived a life surrounded by people who loved him. My deepest sympathy to you.
