WILLIAM DeTILLO Obituary
Age 72, of Allison Park, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family August 1, 2014. William was a teacher at Shady Side Academy for 23 years and at Armstrong County School District for 11 years. The impact of William's passing is felt by many decades of students; remembered as a kind, engaging educator and mentor. Known for his servant leadership style of teaching, he leaves behind a legacy of generosity, care, and lifelong learning. Son of the late Nicholas and Grace DeTillo of Baldwin, William is survived by his loving wife, Dawn Eaton DeTillo; children, Jeffrey (Courtney) Blood, Laine (Joseph) Bruce, and Leah (Josh) Kremer; he is also survived by his two grandchildren, Alyse Blood and Elliott Bruce; brother of David (Gayle) DeTillo. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014, at 12 p.m. in the Oakmont Presbyterian Church, 415 Pennsylvania Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. Interment will be private. Arrangements entrusted to the ENGLISH FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 378 Maryland Ave., Oakmont, PA 15139. Online condolences may be made at:

Hey brother Bill - I think of you all the time, and the lifetime of fun we had as kids. As adults we were lucky enough to stay close through the years - still enjoying making music together on stage. Miss you......................

I am unfortunately just learning of Bill DeTillo's death far after the fact. I was a student of his in the early/mid-1970s. One of my memories of him is seeing me with a book that was controversial in the day and saying that teachers were under orders to confiscate the book if anyone was seen with it. He was saying that so I would put the book away. He had no intention of taking it. Anyway, my sympathies to his family, however belatedly.
