My father, Walt Dassdorf, posted a condolence for Mary. He was “101 and counting”. He passed away last October at 106. Now the entire Troy Hill Gang are partying in Heaven. I witnessed their deep friendship over my lifetime. A truly great generation. May they all Rest In Peace. God bless them.

I just saw Mary's obituary. I was fortunate to have had a brief acquaintance with this wonderful woman when we were on the Colorado River raft trip 37 years ago. She was a delight with a wonderful spirit. I also visited her in Pittsburgh when I lived there in the early 90's. She was a bright spot and I won't ever forget her. She will be missed by anyone who knew her.

Mrs. Wohleber remains to this day my most favorite teacher ever. Maybe my most favorite human being ever. I have been telling people about her for over 50 years. I have thought of her often during my life. She was, simply, the best.

My condolences to the Wohleber Family, you are in my prayers. Your mother taught me in kindergarten, shepherded me through becoming a tour guide at Saint Anthony's Chapel and taught our group the difference between Mitch Miller and Glenn Miller during sing alongs at her home. No one loved the Northside, in particular Troy Hill, more than she did. She shared her knowledge about the history of Pittsburgh, Old Allegheny City, Troy Hill, Mount Troy, Spring Garden, etc. with all who would listen and all who needed to listen. We are all the better for having known her.

I well remember Mary Wohleber! I drank coffee in her living room on Lowrie Street)!
Mary recruited Wayne Kablach, Billy Fichter, Tommy Schmidt and me to sing traditional German songs during the dedication ceremony of St. Anthony's Chapel (Jamie Van Trump courtesy of the Heinz Family) as a national monument / treasure all those years ago!
I will miss you, Mary!

Wohleber family,
I'm crushed by the loss of Mary, a true inspirational preservationist and leader of OLD ALLEGHENY CITY history-she was MS.. ALLEGHENY CITY!
Mary would tell me many times that her home's rocking chair would rock--and then said that Allen , her husband that passed away, would rock the chair and keep her company--Mary said that she always felt safe, when the Rocking chair was moving--Allen was there with her watching over her....
Our City is alot poorer for the loss of Mary Wohleber....
Sincerely,
Pauline, Anthony and Steve Pietzak

Such a bright star--her legacy is that light will shine everywhere in she has been. My mother, Catherine Ferrick, and I had opportunity to be traveling companions with Mary, and those were never-to-be forgotten trips, fun with her on the way and fun with her interacting with locals. She was tireless, energetic and exuberant. God grant her peace; St. Anthony let her find her heart's desire.
Condolences to the family and her community,
Karen Ferrick-Roman

Even though I know she lived a wonderful, long life, it is still so sad to hear that Mary is gone. She was such an inspiration to me and many others. I have never forgotten the wisdom, laughter and passion for life that she shared with me on my visits to her home in Troy Hill and while working with her at PHLF. I told Mary many times that she was my angel and she remains so to this day. Rest in peace, Mary.

I remember her from the TV story about Troy Hill. She showed so much enthusiasm for the view of the City and river. Her face was immediately recognized from this obit. She was a true ambassador for Troy Hill and the City. Now she has a bird's eye view of the whole area.

Mrs Wohleber was an amazing woman and accomplished so much in her life. She was giving, kind and cared about everyone. St. Anthony's Chapel would not be here if not for her and she kept the Firehouse open for as long as possible. She touch so many people in so many different places. The world was a better place because of her.

Mary was a happy person, as if she was already enjoying heaven. She was full of faith and of a watchful realism. Mary encouraged my efforts in preservation of our common heritage structures...especially Calvary U.M. Church, and St. Nicholas R.C. Croatian Church. She was a good teacher because I remember so many of the things she taught me. Jack Schmitt
