We worked together at Houghton Mifflin in 1960. She was a fan of my books and I was touched to see a letter of mine to her on ebay with many of my books.

I'll never forget "Peg" and the Urban League family. If a writer is needed in heaven, she's it. God bless you Walter and family.

Peg was a great writer and help with proposals when Sam Newbury and I were working on projects at Family Communications (now, The Fred Rogers Co.) I am sorry for your loss. She was a good woman!

Sorry your family are experiencing such a sad event. We as on lookers are encouraged to rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. So until your tears turn to joy may each one in the family lovingly comfort one another. (Romans 12:15)

My beloved friend and mentor, Margaret "Peggy" Albert. She soared into my life like a lovely bird from Heaven and became the wind beneath my wings. Peggy helped me to rise professionally to heights I never dreamed possible. It was only for a season, but what a wonderful season it was! Personally, she was my best friend, my confidante; she was to me like Jonathan was to David; always placing everyone before herself; a born strategist, there was no problem that Peggy could not help you work through successfully.
The painting below was created by the late artist Margart Taylor Burroughs who gifted me with this print in 2997 when she visited Pittsburgh for the exhibit "Uncommon Art in Common Places" presented by Kuumba Trust in collaboration with Walter O. Evans. The painting is appropriately titled "Friends". I shared it with Peggy and told her it reminded me of the two of us. She laughed, and nodded her head in agreement; two women: one red haired, the other raven who formed an inseparable bond.
Pittsburgh has truly lost one of its finest. My condolences to her life mate, Walter, her children, and beloved grands.

A significant measure of Peg's life are the number of people who can speak about her as if they were the only person in her life. She gave everyone her undivided and generous attention.
Peg was able to bring out the best in people and help them realize their true potential. She nurtured without smothering or imposing her value system. If a person she assisted achieved success, she never took credit for her contribution. She was the “wind beneath the wings” of countless individuals, regardless of race, creed, sex or religion.
People are sprouting up everywhere after hearing of her passing and unilaterally giving testimony to Peg's warmth, kindness, helpfulness, humanity and they don't even know one another. If they formed a fraternity to keep her memory alive, it could simply be called “Friends of Peg Albert.” There would be no need for bylaws, because we would all intuitively know what to do. Peg's example of how to treat others would be the rule of law.
It was Peg who pointed out to me in editing my mother's eulogy that her name, Glovena, contained the word “love”, something I never realized. That was the kind of perception, insight and sensitivity Peg had and it was something that greatly eased my grief over 35 years ago. It was a prime example of why others loved her.
She told me around that same time that “The Lion Sleeps Tonight” was the song that she wanted all her friends to play by which to remember her. (I am listening to it now as I compose these words.) So now it is my turn to eulogize her.
She was without a doubt a “lion” and I firmly believe she sleeps peacefully after her life of service to humanity.
