JOHN FLISS Obituary
Age 89, of New Kensington, on Friday, March 20, 2015. Born in Russellton on April 1, 1925, son of the late Stanley and Agnes Kosczalka Fliss. He was a veteran in the US Army serving during WWII. He attended Duquesne University School of Pharmacy, graduating in 1951. He then became co-owner and operator of Fifth Avenue Pharmacy in New Kensington from 1955 to 1992. John was a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, the Knights of Columbus Council 1381, former President of National Scrip Collectors Assoc. (NSCA), and the Polish National Alliance. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Turano Fliss; brothers, Joseph and Stephen Fliss; sister, Frances Yaworski. He is survived by a son, Stanley J. Fliss; daughter, Agnes (John) Layden; sister, Stella Marek; granddaughter, Clarie Leyden. Family and friends will be received from 7-9 p.m. only on Monday, March 23, 2015, and 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2015, in the JOSEPH J. CARDARO FUNERAL HOME, 1125 Kenneth Ave., New Kensington, 724-337-3325. Prayers of Transfer will be held in the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2015. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow in Our Lady of Hope Catholic Cemetery, Tarentum, with full military honors, conducted by the VFW Tarentum Post 5758.

John was a very lovely man who we first met when our son, John Leyden, married his daughter Agnes Fliss. He told me how much he loved his wife and missed her so much. He worried about his daughter going forward without a Mom to call on and would our whole family try to help out as best we could. Hopefully we have not let him down. We love both Agnes and John and always will.

Our deepest sympathy to Agnes and Stanley on the death of their father John Fliss. He was such a nice man and so easy to know. We enjoyed having him in our family circle when our son John Leyden married his daughter, Agnes. Love and prayers.
