FATHER LEO RAYMOND
Age 82, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017, at Stella Maris in Timonium, Maryland. Father Leo was born on January 18, 1935, in Altoona, Pennsylvania to the late Paul Calvin and Elsie (Coons) Tittler.He was a graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. Following his graduation, he began his studies at Catholic University of America graduating with a AB in Philosophy and a MS in Liberal Science, he would go on to complete his Theologate/Seminary Studies at the Catholic University of America. On June 8, 1963, Father Leo would be ordained at the Immaculate Conception Shrine, in Washington DC. He was a member of the Franciscan Fathers. He would be appointed to several parishes during his service to the Lord; July 1970, Associate Clergy at St. Stephen's, Bradshaw. Working with Cardinal Lawrence Shehan, Father Tittler was incardinated into the Baltimore archdiocese, first serving in June 1972, as the Associate Clergy at St. William of York; September 1975, Associate Clergy and Pastor (1977) at St. Peter, Westernport; August 1982, Associate Clergy at St. Matthew's in Baltimore; December 1982, Pastor at St. John the Evangelist, Hydes; February 1992, Pastor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Thurmont also serving St. Anthony Shrine; February 2001, Sr. Priest at Saint John the Evangelist in Frederick, Maryland, which would be his final appointment until his retirement in February of 2005. He was also very active with the Knights of Columbus and was a third and fourth degree Knight. He also instrumental in beginning a Knights of Columbus Council at St. John's, Hydes, called the Long Green Council. Father Leo is survived by one brother, Robert Tyler; and numerous nieces, nephews and treasured friends. He was preceded by Sister Patricia and by Sister Mary Paulus, who both served the Lord as Nuns; and siblings, Rose Shuman, Mary Kells, Sarah McCloskey and Jane Clowers. A viewing will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, from 4-8 p.m., at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701. A viewing will also be held on Friday, February 24, 2017, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church with a Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 10:30 a.m. Archbishop William E. Lori will celebrate.
