Dear Chuck and family:

We just learned of your loss from the N.C. alumni e-mail newsletter, and we can't begin to comprehend your feelings of loss. We never knew C.J. but we know what an outstanding young man he was because we knew his parents. We're praying for you and your family.

Dear Spatafores,

I was so surprised to hear of your family's loss. Having met Chuckie through Natalie during our time at Miaimi of Ohio, he always was so fun to be around and truly made people feel comfortable. Although Nat and I have drifted in and out of contact since college, when we did talk we always caught up about what was going on with Chuckie especially since I live in Columbus and he spent so much time here. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Spatafores, My wife Bridget and I were heartbroken to learn of CJ's passing. We are still in disbeleif.

We became close freinds in Columbus. CJ and I worked together at OSF and we socialized at eachother's homes nearly every weekend. Bridget and I still regulary talk about the many great times we all had together. It's been over seven years since we moved away from Ohio and we still keep a picture frame displayed in our home with a number of hilarous photos of some of our most special times with CJ.

I wish our paths had not drifted so far apart. From time to time we would talk for hours on the phone and it was like we never had missed a minute. It's been several years since we had been able to get together. I had always hoped we would find ourselves in the same part of the country so we could again spend time together.

CJ was a wonderful guy; vibrant, entertaining and generous. He always made the room light up when he was around.

He will be sorely missed by many. Our prayers are with you all in this difficult time. We will keep CJ in our hearts.

With love, Lou and Bridget Novoa

Mr. Spatafore and Family,

I was shocked and greatly saddened to hear of your loss. I too met C.J. playing hockey here in Columbus and was a team mate for several years. He always seemed to be able to pick up our group with a one liner or anecdote. We've told numerous C.J. stories to each other the past week and the common thread seems to be that he was a very outgoing and likable person who was able to uplift and influence others with his personality.

I missed having him around when he went back home a few years ago but I'm grateful for the time I did know him.

To the Spatafore Family,

I am shocked and saddened to hear of CJ's passing. My two brothers and I first met CJ as teammates while playing men's league hockey here in Columbus. My family quickly bonded with CJ as we shared great mutual interest in hockey, golf and our Italian heritage. CJ enjoyed coming to my father's house for Sunday night spaghetti and meatballs. He was truly someone that everyone loved and he will be greatly missed. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Mr. Spatafore and Family,

My deepest sympathy to you and your family for the loss of CJ. CJ and I became friends thru playing hockey in columbus and CJ was a true friend and will be missed dearly. I will miss the quick one liners that he always had and the stories that he told. God Bless.

Mr. Spatafore and Family,

I am shocked and saddened to hear about C.J.'s passing. He was a Hockey teammate of mine for most of the years he spent here in Columbus. We always tried to play on the same line because we seemed to "click pretty well"with the puck. I have many memories of him that still bring a smile to my face when I think of him. He almost always called me "Lance" and I would call him "Spats".

Take care,

Scott Lancia

May 26, 2004

I had the fortune of meeting CJ through hockey in Columbus as far back as 1987. Hockey with CJ has left so many memories. Back in 1999, CJ's amazing writing skills and creativity helped me with my career. He encouraged me to not be afraid of a job change. I will never forget that. CJ stayed at my house before leaving Columbus. He always had a colorful way of stating things no matter the situation.

Please accept my deepest sympathy on the loss of a truly wonderful person. Although I have not seen Chuckie for many years, I often think about all the fun we had at North Catholic. I will always remember that great smile and unbelievable sense of humor. My deepest sympathy.

To the Spatafore Family. I was shocked and saddened to hear of C.J.'s death. I was fortunate to know him for the 4 years we lived in Columbus, OH. Although we heard him called "spats" and "Chuckie", we always knew him by C.J. My families prayers are with you at this difficult time. C.J. was always so kind to me, my wife Jill and our sons Grant and Coleman. He always had a smile and was a very giving person. It was a privaledge to have known him and he was very proud to be a Spatafore. He yearned to be back in Pittsburgh during his years in Columbus and I know he was glad to be back with his family. All of his friends at OSF, Inc. where he was employed in Columbus are also shocked and saddened at his tragic passing. Please find peace in knowing that he touched many lives in such a positive way during his life. Again, our prayers are with you at this very difficult time. Our deepest regards, Pete Gulick and Family.

what a friendly guy who always greeted me with a "what's up buddy?"i knew chuckie through baseball and ice skating. he was always a fierce competitor and at the same time a great sportsman. it's not surprising that he helped kids later in life as he was always a picker-upper on any team he competed. god bless his family and always remember that infectious smile

Dear Mr. Spatafore:

I am so sorry to hear about the death of your son. I met Chuckie in 1976 when we attended NC together. Like your son Doug and you, Chuckie was the type of person who made life worth living. We need more Spatafores on this planet. It is unfortunate that we lost him.

Chuckie was my political captain for my bid to become Student Council President of NC. The odds against us were insurmountable. Thanks to his smile and efforts we were successful. I'll never forget him. I hope he smiling somewhere. In fact somewhere I know he is smiling. I'll never forget that smile.

My deepest condolences to your entire family.

Dear Chuck and family,

I fondly remember all the times I baby sat for "little Chuckie" but especially the time he was 2 and accidentally stepped on Samson, my brother Mark's Easter chick. Mark was so distressed with the injury to the chicken that he carved its name into the living room end table, thereby giving my mom pause for thought on how to handle Mark.

As soon as Mark spoke with you last week, he phoned me with news of your son's condition. I immediately started burning a 7 day candle here at home for Chuck Jr. That candle is still burning and serves as a symbol of my solidarity with you at this time of family sorrow.
