FRANK ANDERSON
82, after a long illness on Thursday, March 17, 2005. Born in Pittsburgh, PA on June 13, 1922; he was the son of Frank L. and Mary M. Trapp. Dr. Trapp, who was a Fulbright Scholar, received a BA from Carnegie Institute of Technology and a MA and PhD from Harvard. Frank, an art educator, was a faculty member at Williams College, Williamstown, Mass. for five years and Amherst College, Amherst, Mass. for 36 years. During his tenure at Amherst, he served as a rotating Chairman of the Art Dept. and was the Director of the Mead Art Museum for 20 years. After his retirement in 1992 he returned to Pittsburgh where he made his home. Dr. Trapp was the author of several books in his field: The Attainment of Delacroix, Peter Blume, and The Grand Tradition: British Art from Amherst College. He also was a contributing author of countless articles published in many art journals and authored many museum publications relating to art exhibition at major art museums. Professor Trapp was a guest lecturer at colleges and universities both in the United States and in Europe. Frank was a seasoned traveler and spent most of his summers in England, France and Italy. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theater. Frank was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Mary Trapp and a brother Robert H. Trapp. He is survived by his brothers and sisters-in law, Dr. Donald C. Trapp and Alice of Wheeling, West VA and Edward L. and Patricia A. Trapp of Glastonbury, CT., a niece, Donna Warman of Selinsgrove, PA and nephews, Craig and Eric Trapp of Vernon, CT; grand-niece Calley Warman; grand-nephews Brooks and Bryce Warman of Selinsgrove, PA and Jaret Tyler Trapp of Vernon, CT. Services and inurnment private. Inurnment Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Family suggest memorial contributions to Amherst College, c/o Michael Kiefer, Campus Box 2220, Amherst, MA 01002-5000.
