Ronald Day Obituary

Ronald Day, of Rigby, passed away peacefully on the evening of June 6, 2018, of natural causes. He was born March 3, 1942, in Idaho Falls to Harris and Della Day.

Ron fell in love and married Loretta Blackburn in 1961. Together they raised four children, sharing the many moments, trials and rewards of parenthood. Later they divorced but remained good friends. In 1995 he married Linda Carter, his loving wife until his death. Together they spent many years enjoying their children, grandchildren and sharing their lives together.

Ron was a bricklayer by trade. He practiced his craft on both small and large projects across the Northwest. He laid the stone of many fireplaces that are enjoyed today. Ron was a lifelong member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union and served as their business agent for many years. Ron was also a member of the Laborers' Union.

Countless are the hours Dad enjoyed camping and fishing. He instilled in his children a love for the outdoors. Dad enjoyed gun ownership and reloading ammo. Target shooting on the desert with his children and grandchildren was one of his favorite pastimes. He was also a lifelong reader and even greater storyteller. Whether around a kitchen table or an open campfire, he had a special way of drawing you in and capturing the essence of past events with his sense of humor and clever wit, always making others laugh. Another pastime for dad was NASCAR. If time did not permit, then recording technology was employed, for Sunday's race was not to be missed.

Dad is survived by his wife, Linda, and his brother, Mike Day, of Helena, Montana. He is also survived by his four children: Mitch (Lorraine) Day, Greg (Lisa) Day, Ryan (Lynnae) Day, all of Rigby, and Andrea (Dave) Fortner, of Idaho Falls, and his three stepchildren: Tammy (Monty) Marlin, of Idaho Falls, Kimberly (Wade) Lee and Jennifer (Sheldon) Paul, both of Rigby. Dad became a grandpa in 1990 and made it a weekly practice to visit his grandchildren. He is survived by his 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

We would like to sincerely thank the EIRMC medical and nursing staff, the cardio rehab team, the many doctors and Jan Garland, F.N.P for all of their years of compassion and dedication.

A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, we ask that a donation be made in Ron's honor to the Nature Conservancy at support.nature.org/site/Donation or by mail to The Nature Conservancy Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.coltrinmortuary.com.
