Virginia Tolman Obituary

Virginia K. Hess Tolman was born Jan. 28, 1939, in St. Anthony, the daughter of Sherman Smith Hess and June Lansberry Hess.

She died July 11, 2018, in Bountiful, Utah, at the home of her son Eric Tolman and his wife, Monika.

She was preceded by her parents; brothers William and Dean Hess; sisters Mary and Jessie; and her children David, Dane and Martha Tolman.

She is survived by her sister Janet Codling, of Idaho; brothers Bruce and David; sister Gail; and her children: Angela Rooke of Rexburg; Eric and Monika Tolman, of Bountiful, Utah; Kelly Tolman, of Adrian, Oregon; and Kishka and Chris Erekson, of Provo, Utah. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She married and later divorced David M. Tolman.

Virginia graduated from North Fremont High School in Ashton and later graduated from Eastern Oregon State College. Virginia enjoyed a prosperous teaching career in Oregon, Idaho and Utah. As a school librarian, coach and teacher, she inspired and motivated many students. Virginia was an artist, a teacher and above all a mother. She raised four children whom it was her pride to see married with children of their own.

She will be buried in Ashton. She requests that there be no flowers for the funeral, as she is allergic to them and does not wish to sneeze during the services. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local charity or to the North Fremont High School athletic fund.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, at Baxter Funeral Home, 717 Main St., in Ashton. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:30-7 p.m. and Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m., both times at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pineview Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online to the family at www.baxterfh.com.

She thanks all of her many friends and family for their love and support. Her motto was "If you think you are happy then you are happy; it is a state of mind because bad things happen to us all, so be happy."
