Anthony "Tony" Marcon was born February 10, 1956, in Idaho Falls, to Reno and Maxine Marcon. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary School, O. E. Bell Jr. High and Skyline High School. He then attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana.
After college, Tony returned to Idaho Falls and operated a small tobacco shop, The Pipe Dream. He carried the best pipe tobacco and cigars in Idaho. His customers were serious aficionados and they enjoyed the camaraderie that Tony brought to the shop. Deciding that his future could be better, he changed occupations and joined his father in the Marcon Agency representing Transamerica and Occidental Life Insurance Co. After the death of his father, he became the General Agent for the company.
In 1982, he met and married the love of his life, Cherry Gibbons. Together they raised her two children, Darby and Heath. Tony became very successful in the insurance industry and received many awards including the Leading Producers Club for outstanding service and production. Tony was also dedicated to his community and served in many civic organizations including the United Way and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. He was a member of Holy Rosary Parish, the BPOE Elks and a former member of the Idaho Falls Country Club. Tony was also an avid golfer all of his life. He followed perfectly in the footsteps of his father.
Everyone loved our Tony and the feeling was returned. Tony never encountered a stranger, only a friend he had not met yet. He will be greatly missed. With his sudden death, it should remind us all of the value of love, forgiveness, kindness and generosity of spirit.
Tony is survived by his wife, Cherry; children, Darby Heyrend (Trad) and Heath Smaellie (Amy); and five grandchildren, McKenzie Cutler, Sidney Archibald and Jacob and Cassandra Heyrend and 9-week-old Luke Even Smaellie. He is also survived by four sisters, Pearl Hahn (Fred) of Idaho Falls, Frankie Browning (Ed, deceased) of Santa Fe, N.M., Marilyn Laugenour of Valley Springs, Calif., and Char Sullivan (Kevin) of South Beach, Fla., and brother, Dan of Idaho Falls. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Idaho Falls. A gathering for family and friends will be held after the graveside service at Tony's home. Arrangements are under the direction of Buck-Miller-Hann Funeral Home in Idaho Falls. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.buckmillerhann.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Tony's name to The Community Outreach Center (Soup Kitchen) 301 S. Boulevard, Idaho Falls, ID.
