Rosalie Waddell Kaufman Christensen was born to Keith and LaRena Waddell on June 22, 1938, the fourth of nine children. She was raised in Alta, Wyoming, where she attended elementary school. Her daddy caller her "Merry Sunshine" because of her happy nature and her long, bouncy, blond curls.
She graduated from Teton High School and married her handsome cowboy, Fritz Kaufman, on her 18th birthday in 1956. They were blessed with four sons, Roger, Ken, Owen and Wade. (Fritz and Ken preceded her in death in 1993 and 1998). For several years, Fritz and Rosalie lived in a two-room log cabin at the end of a long dirt road in Alta, where they developed a logging and fencing business.
Rosalie had a natural gift for business. Throughout her life and without formal schooling, she worked as an efficient administrator in medical, dental and banking services.
In December 2001, Rosalie married her dear friend, Barrie Christensen, with whom she had a cherished experience serving a 21/2-year mission for the LDS church at Martin's Cove.
She passed away Friday, May 14, 2010.
All who knew her loved her. She will be greatly missed. Rosalie will be remembered for her beautiful soprano voice, her wonderful meals, her willing service, her cheerful smile, her business acumen, her compassion, her unconditional love and her devotion to her family and to God. Like the pioneers she so admired, Rosalie was the model pioneer woman with her face to the wind, the sun on her cheeks, a song on her lips, love in her heart and burdens slung over her back.
Survived by her gentle husband, Barrie and his family; her beloved sons, Roger (Natalie), Owen and Wade (Kristi); Ken's widow, Annie; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Dix (MaryJean), LeMoyne (Peggy), Janice Wilson, ClydaRae (Fred Blackburn), Vaun (Lidia), Kristine (Kent) Rawlinson and Caryl (Kenneth) Horner; and Lynn's widow, Janet.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at 11 a.m. at the Driggs LDS church with the burial following at Pratt Cemetery under the direction of the Valley Mortuary in Driggs.
Condolences can be sent to the family at valley mortuarydriggs.com.
