Judith J. Burkhardt, 78, of Coudersport, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at UPMC-Cole, Coudersport.
Judy was born on Jan. 10, 1943, in Philadelphia, the daughter of the late F. Herman and Genevieve (Anderson) Kummerlen. She married John Barry Burkhardt on Nov. 25, 1966 and they celebrated 53 years of marriage until his passing on July 19, 2020.
Judy worked for Green Valley Farms, Haddonfield, N.J.; Fox and Lazo Real Estate and Insurance, Haddonfield and Ryder Truck Rentals as a safety manager. She met her husband, John, while taking a self defense class at one of his Dojos in South Jersey where she would become a black belt.
In 1979 Judy and her husband, John, moved to Potter County. They purchased and operated the Coudersport Laundromat and in 1985 they built and operated Video Valley, Coudersport. They would later build Cedar Ridge Development. They would then own and operate J.B. Sales & Modular Homes. In 1999, John and Judy purchased Coudersport Insuring Company, Inc., where Judy had been working. Judy was with the Coudersport Insurance Company for 28 years as an agent, broker and owner until she retired in 2007.
Judy was a member of St. Eulalia Catholic Church, Coudersport and enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.
Judy is survived by a brother, Karl (Grace) Kummerlen of Maple Shade, N.J.; a sister, Ellen (Joseph) Gangemi of Berlin, N.J., a brother-in-law, Paul E. Burkhardt Jr., of Lindenwold, N.J. and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Judy was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Gerald William Burkhardt.
A Memorial Mass at St. Eulalia Catholic Church will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials contributions in Judith's name be made to, St. Eulalia Catholic Church, 6 Maple Street, Coudersport, PA 16915 , Coudersport Volunteer Fire Department, 171 Port Allegany Road, Coudersport, PA 16915, Coudersport Volunteer Ambulance Association, 122 E. 2nd St., Coudersport, PA 16915 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
The family has entrusted the Thomas E. Fickinger Funeral Home, 210 North East St., Coudersport with her arrangements.
