Gerald Andrew Sherwood, 77, passed away after a long illness on Friday, May 11, 2018 in his home in Obelisk, PA. surrounded by his loving family. Born on November 23, 1940 in Hartmansville, WV, he was the son of the late Henry M. Sherwood and Mary E. Sherwood. He grew up working on the family farm. Gerald is survived by his three sons, John Sherwood and his wife Michele of Perkasie, PA, Timothy Sherwood and his wife Pamela of Troy, MI and Joseph Sherwood and his wife Ella of Pottstown, PA, one brother Lloyd Ray Sherwood of Mount Storm, WV, three sisters, Norma Shears of Keyser WV, Kathryn Bucklew of Hartmansville WV and Debra Evans also of Hartmansville WV, 4 grandsons, Michael Scott (Erica) Sherwood, William Craig (Allyson) Sherwood, Vaughn (Lisa) Sherwood, Owen Sherwood and one granddaughter, Isabel Sherwood. He is also survived by multiple cousins and nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his brothers Harold Sherwood and Marshall Sherwood. Gerald was a retired carpenter and member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 1595/167 for over 25 years and worked on numerous industrial and commercial projects around the Philadelphia area. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time chasing game in the mountains of WV and the fields of PA, fishing in Maine and Michigan, and a skier who traveled to Europe, Canada and the American West. In the last few years he was able to reconnect with his best buddy Ralph Bosley, and traveled to Alaska and many other places with his friend Rose Miketta. Gerald enjoyed spending time with family, friends and old schoolmates but maybe got his most pleasure from gardening, preserving and sharing the vegetables for others to enjoy. Interment will be at the Nethken Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elk Garden, WV on Sunday May 27th at 5:30pm with a short reception following in the Fellowship Hall. Arrangements were handled by Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home of Lansdale, PA.
