Schwinger
Hyde Park - Margaret Marie Schwinger, 91, a Hyde Park resident for the past 50 years, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at The Pines at Poughkeepsie.
Born on July 12, 1921 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Myrtle Hill Haase.
Mrs. Schwinger was employed as a school crossing guard in Pelham, NY, and later as a food service worker at the Hudson River State Hospital. She retired in 1983 after 20 years of service with the State of New York.
She served as Worthy Matron for the Order of the Eastern Star, Winyah Chapter, Westchester, and was invited into the Sisters of the South. She was also a member of the Shekomeko Chapter in Pleasant Valley and the Hendrick Hudson Chapter in Red Hook.
Well known and active in the community, Margaret volunteered for the Food Pantry, St. Francis Gift Shop, Mark-It-Place, and Hyde Park voting polls. She was a member of the local Retired Senior Volunteer Program (R.S.V.P.) and AARP. Margaret was very supportive toward many families in need.
On September 6, 1942 in Bronx, NY, she married Richard Wilhelm Schwinger. Mr. Schwinger predeceased her on May 4, 1978.
She is survived by her daughter, Lorraine Schwinger, of Hyde Park; son, Richard W. Schwinger, of Hyde Park; grandson, Ryan Wade Schwinger, of Hyde Park; brother, William Haaze, of Sacramento, CA; and several nieces & nephews.
She was predeceased by her brother, Robert Haase.
Her positive spirit will be missed by all.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A period of memorial visitation will be from 9 to 10 am, Monday, October 15th, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park. Eastern Star services will take place during the visitation.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 10 am, Monday, at the Funeral Home. Rev. Eileen Freeman will officiate.
Burial of her ashes will be in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery following the memorial service.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Schwinger family and especially to Ryan who was one of my students. I didn't know Margaret but if she had a grandson like Ryan, she must have been a very special woman.
