Donald Secor
WAPPINGERS FALLS - Donald Secor, "Farmer Secor", a lifelong resident died on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Born on May 2, 1939 at Vassar Hospital, he was the son of the late Clarence and Dorothy Secor. He also attended Dutchess Community College and proudly served our country in the United States Coast Guard Reserves from 1960-1971 as a Firefighter First Class.
Don met his wife Mary in 1960 at Smith Brothers Cough Drop Factory where they both worked. On September 28, 1963, they were married at the Washington Street Heading Methodist Church in Poughkeepsie. In 1964, they started Secor Farms where they grew strawberries, blueberries and pumpkins. Don farmed his land with love for over 50 years. He was a member of the New York Farm Bureau and the North American Strawberry Growers Association, which took Don and Mary to many meetings throughout the United States and Canada.
Don leaves his loving wife, Mary; his son, Donald R. Secor and wife Lisa of Pine Bush; his daughter, Lucinda M. Secor of Wappingers Falls; his grandson, "T.R." Tyler Robert Secor of Pine Bush; his step-grandsons, Kenny and Casey; his brother, Neil Secor and wife Chris of Pleasant Valley; several nieces, nephews and cousins, extended family and friends; his dog and buddy, Jake; and his customers. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard E. Secor, in July of 2012.
