Joel Surico

Poughkeepsie - Joel Surico, affectionately known as "Josie Wales", 58, a lifelong local resident, died Saturday, November 24, 2012 at home.

Born July 30, 1954 in Poughkeepsie, he was the son of the late Frank and Gladys Weyant Surico. He attended Hyde Park Schools.

Joel worked for various local blacktop contractors until his retirement due to health problems.

He liked old cars and enjoyed going fishing.

Joel is survived by his daughter, Christine Nabried of Scranton, PA; five grandchildren, Racquelle Surico, Dennis, Jenalle, Jaida, and Layla Nabried; six siblings, Catherine M. Spross of Hyde Park, Greta Becker and husband, Donald, of Poughkeepsie, John and Frank Surico, both of Pine Plains, James Surico and wife, Mary Jane, of Rhinebeck, and Isabella Landers and husband, Kenneth, of Staatsburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, David, Gary, and Donald Surico.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place.

A period of memorial visitation will take place from 10 to 11 am, Monday, December 3rd at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park, followed by a memorial service at 11 am with Rev. Arlene Dawber officiating.

Burial of his ashes will be in Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dutchess County S.P.C.A., 636 Violet Ave., Hyde Park, NY 12538.

Joel ,my cousin you loved to laugh and made the best out of bad situation.the fun we had in our youth.you always the best of what you had.your mom and brothers will. Greet you at the gates...love ya cuz...I'll miss you. And our phone calls..be free Joel. ,love ya. Dearly...god carry him home to his love ones...p.s. if the people only knew ,how we laughed so hard over silly things,we lived together and I'll never ever forget...SO. SAD
