Richard (Dick)

O'Connor Sr.

CARY, NC - Richard (Dick) O'Connor Sr. died on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Duke Raleigh Hospital from complications of lung cancer at the age of 71.

He was born February 7, 1943 in Poughkeepsie, New York, to Anna and Edwin Leonard O'Connor. He graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1960 and Dutchess Community College.

He was a resident of North Carolina for 22 years. In his 35 1/2 year career at IBM, he worked in Poughkeepsie, NY, Boca Raton, FL, and Raleigh, NC as well as assignments in Rome and London, before retiring in 1999.

He loved cooking, bowling, working on his model trains and playing the organ. He also enjoyed working in his yard and took great pride in all the compliments he received.

He was a founding member of the Hudson Valley Mustang Association and won many awards for his self-restored 1972 Mustang.

He recently became enthusiastic in tracing his O'Connor ancestry and was able to identify his lineage up to his great grandfather. Through this effort, he was able to reconnect with cousins he had not seen in 35 years.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; son Rick and his wife, JoAnne; daughter, Lisa; son, Kevin and his wife, Betsy; and five grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Hunter, Sydney, and Gwenyth. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marilyn O'Connor; three nieces; two great-nieces; a great-nephew; and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Len.
