Robert Casey Obituary
Dover - Robert J. (Bob) Casey of Dover, NY passed away October 18, 2016 in Newburgh at the age of 73.
An Audio-Video entrepreneur, Mr. Casey learned his craft as a teen, being the first to use a two turntable DJ station in dances in the Yonkers NY area. His DJ station now resides at the Smithsonian Institution.
His Army service was as that of production manager for the Armed Forces Vietnam Network in Saigon in the 1960s working closely with the U.S.O. His Armed Forces broadcast from Times Square, New Year's Eve, 1969 is reported to be the first worldwide broadcast, simulcast on Radio Free Europe and the Voice of America.
Upon discharge from the service, Mr. Casey founded Virgo Sound in Manhattan, where he became an audio consultant and designer of sound systems for discos and countless churches, schools, auditoriums, halls, airports, theaters and public spaces from 1972 to 1999.
Following that, Mr. Casey worked at Dale Pro Audio as a consultant where he created Radio Dale, a music service to promote the business.
Mr. Casey semi-retired and worked as a System Consultant from his office and studio in Dutchess County until his passing.
He is survived by his sister Judy (Frank) Vitolo, of Fishkill, NY, Mary Casey of Poughkeepsie, NY. and brother Edward P. Casey Jr. (Patricia) of Florida. His brother William (Donna) predeceased him.
Services will be held at Horn & Thomes, Inc. Funeral Home, 83 East Main Street, Pawling, NY.(845) 855-3550 Saturday, Oct. 22nd from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM.

I know him of his DISCO early activity. I mean his organisation NADD (National Association of Discotheque Disc Jokeys) and his magazine Melting Pot where he published short story about me :-) He promised me to send whole collection of Melting Pot but he died suddenly ...

Bob was an innovator early on in sound...I was General Manager of the Continental Baths in NYC. Bob came around and turned what once was just a simple juke box disco dance area (next to a cigarette machine) into one of the finest sound systems in NY in the early '70's...his audio speaker system, the DJ booth he designed & created, the lighting system, etc were sensational...state of the art...so much so that all the major DJs' wanted to spin there, including Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles and Bobby Guttadero. RIP Bob and thanks for upping the quality of audio for us all. His wise, innovative, inventive and discerning talents will be and are already missed.

It is sad, very sad for me old deejay from |Poloand and disco historian today who try to save as much as possible our history.

Bob and I were thrown together in a hopital room in Vassar in August 2016. In the few days we were together we had many great conversations and common interests. I was there when they made his diagnosis and will always remember the plans we made to get together after we were out. I wish him well on his journey and am glad I was able to spend time with him. God Speed.
