Allan Leslie Mullgrav, Jr.,

Hyde Park - Allan Leslie Mullgrav, Jr., 79, of Hyde Park, NY passed away at home on May 9, 2018, after courageously battling myelofibrosis, a rare form of leukemia. Allan was born in New York, NY on November 18, 1938 and raised in Spring Valley, NY. He was the only son of Allan L. Mullgrav, Sr. and Pearl Simmons Mullgrav, both deceased, and the eldest of four children.

Allan excelled in academics and music throughout his youth and graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1954. He attended Cornell University, Cooper Union and received his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from New Jersey Institute of Technology. He went on to a long and successful career as an electrical engineer at IBM in East Fishkill, NY, where he held many patents. He retired In December 2006.

Allan began taking piano lessons at the age of five and went on to become an accomplished classical pianist. He performed at annual recitals both locally and in New York City. He loved attending concerts, including festivals at Saratoga, Tanglewood, Newport and New York City. Some of his favorite hobbies were reading, listening to jazz and playing chess. Allan was an avid pool player and spent many evenings with his friends Al Cabane and John Sheby playing at each other's homes. In recent years he took up bowling and reconnected with high school buddies Cliff Weeks and Art Andersen. He was a New York Knicks season ticket holder for many years and he and his wife Myra regularly traveled to Madison Square Garden to attend games. He and Myra loved to travel and enjoyed many trips with a local group called "Adventures for Rascals." Allan especially loved the group trip to Argentina and Brazil.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife, Myra McIntosh Mullgrav and her daughter, Jennifer McIntosh, his daughter, Jeanne Mullgrav of New York City; 3 sisters, Anita Mills Sams and her husband, Albert of Rockville Centre, NY, Dianne Armstrong of Poughkeepsie, NY and Carolyn Korber and her husband, Mark of Wethersfield, CT, as well as by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Allan is also survived by his large extended family descended from his late wife, Hezerlene (Hazel) Roberson Mullgrav; they include daughter, Donna Jackson Field and her husband Philip Field; her grandchildren, Michael Jackson, Elimu Freeman, Salim Miller, Azi Miller, Jahi Miller and beloved Suman Miller, Tulani Freeman and her son, King Tiah.

He is predeceased his daughter, Sandra Mullgrav Murphy, Hezerlene's daughter, Jacqueline Miller and her daughter Amina Miller.

The family would like to thank Hospice of The Hudson Valley, and home health aids Nicola, Kerell, Kera, Kay and Donna for their support, kindness and help. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to (online at www.lls.org).

Mr. Mullgrav will repose 10:00 a.m. - 12 Noon Friday, May 18, 2018 at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2 Winnikee Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY. Services at 12 Noon at the church. Rev. Michael Bell will officiate.
