Darlene Calcagni Obituary
Darlene Calcagni

Hyde park - Darlene Marie Calcagni, 57, of Hyde Park, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the Thompson House, Rhinebeck, NY after a 5-year battle with cancer.

Since her birth, on February 4, 1961 in Poughkeepsie, NY, Darlene was always known as an angel who had fallen down to earth - and now, found her wings. 'Selfless' was a term people often used to describe her. She will be remembered as a dear friend to all; an empathetic, non-judgmental ear, and a loving shoulder to cry on.

Receiving a cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, but Darlene decided to remain optimistic instead. Many were surprised she was fighting for as long as she did. Throughout her illness, Darlene continued to work as a secretary for the Hyde Park Central School District.

Darlene married Gary Calcagni on Saturday, May 8, 1982 at Regina Coeli Catholic Church, Hyde Park, NY. After marrying Gary, Darlene focused all of her energies into raising their children by being a stay-at-home mom. She was a 'nester' and found fulfillment in that. She also enjoyed gardening, baking, joking around and spending time with her family.

Her husband, Gary of 36 years survives at home. She was the daughter of the late Edward Schamberg, and Terrie Schamberg who survives. A son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kelli and grandson Liam Calcagni; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey and Robert Villafuerte, will carry on Darlene's spirit. She is also survived by a sister, Rene Mackey; a brother, Blaine Schamberg; her grandmother, Viola Doughty Sosta; Godmother, Janet Redl; and Godfather, Keith Doughty. Darlene will also be forever remembered by her numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A celebration of Darlene's life will be from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, on Friday, June 15, 2018, at Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., 4365 Albany Post Rd., Hyde Park, NY. A Mass will be celebrated at 10am on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel of St. Peter's Parish, 185 Hudson View Dr., Poughkeepsie, NY.

Darlene and her family respectfully request memorial donations to The Sparrow's Nest, www.sparrowsnestcharity.org.
