Frank Bauer Obituary

Frank H. Bauer

POUGHKEEPSIE - Frank H. Bauer, 84, of the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY died peacefully at home on November 7, 2014. Frank was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH on May 4, 1930 to Frank W. and Bertha I. Bauer. Frank's early years were spent performing through the mid-west and southwest with his parents and sister in his grandmother's theater show, "The Jesse Colton Players". After a few years of a "normal" life in Cincinnati, he graduated from Anderson High School and joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp. in 1948 and was based in Ft. Monmouth, NJ, spending three years in Naknek, AK as a Radio-Specialist in the Alaska Communications System, during the Korean War. He returned from military duty to attend Ohio University, graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. Frank married his devoted wife of 56 years, Marlene A. Bauer on May 31, 1958, in Cincinnati, OH.

Frank specialized in the design of controls for automated machines in the machine-tool and auto industries working for The R.K. LeBlond Machine Tool Company in Cincinnati; then designed controls for automated processes in the food and petroleum industries for DeLaval Separator Co. /Alpha Laval Co. in Poughkeepsie, NY. He also worked for Standard Gage in Poughkeepsie, NY then as an independent consultant before his retirement. Frank spent many years traveling throughout the United States and Europe due to work obligations, but always preferred to be home with his family.

Frank was a long-time resident of both Millbrook, NY and Town of Poughkeepsie, NY. Frank spent a number of years taking time with the residents and staff of Daytop Village in Millbrook, NY with friendships that lasted many years. He always valued the ability of people to recover from their drug addictions. His parents' skilled musicianship contributed to a deep love of music over his lifetime. After Frank's conversion to Catholicism at the age of 33, he was a faithful communicant to his church communities of St. Thomas More in Withamsville, OH; Church of St. Joseph in Millbrook, NY and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Poughkeepsie, NY until he was no longer able to attend services. Frank always loved good food through all his world travels, but none better than those meals served from his wife's kitchen. He was an excellent story teller with a delightful sense of humor. He had a deep love of baseball, starting with the Cincinnati Reds but would watch any team, always looking for that well-played game. Frank was a Civil War buff and a voracious reader with multiple areas of interest.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Marlene Bauer of the Town of Poughkeepsie, NY; daughters Lisa and Réna Bauer; son and daughter-in-law Frank and Lynn Bauer and their children Kristin and Jeremy Bauer of Valencia, CA; son Matthew Bauer and his children Lily, Kyla and Zoey of Orange City, FL; son Steven Bauer and his children Steven, Tyler and Lola Bauer of Dayton, KY; son Michael Bauer of Cincinnati, OH.; and nephews, Joseph Schuman of Shelburn,IN. and Daniel Schuman of Cincinnnati, OH. Frank is predeceased by his parents Frank W. and Bertha I. Bauer and his sister and brother-in-law Philena and Eugene Schuman of Cincinnati OH.

Viewing will be held at the Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave, Millbrook, NY on Tuesday, November 11 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at the Church of St. Joseph, 15 North Avenue, Millbrook NY on Wednesday, November 12 at 10 a.m. The interment will follow immediately after the Mass in St. Joseph's Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Daytop Village, 104 W 40th Street, New York, NY 10018 (or at www.daytop.org) or a charity of one's choice.
