Hans H. Meissner

Boiceville - Hans H. Meissner died peacefully at home on May 22, 2018 in Boiceville, NY at the age of 87.

Hans was born in Detroit, Michigan, June 25, 1930.

Hans had an interesting childhood. His parents sent him to be schooled in Germany at the age of 10, where he lived with his Grandparents. However, on September 1, 1939 World War II broke out in Europe. Rather than risk sailing back to the United States risking German U-boat torpedo's. Hans endured many bombing ay Allied Forces with one British bombing destroying his beloved bicycle. Hans remained in Germany until the end of the war in May 1945.

In returning to America, Hans graduated Haaren High School, New York, NY in June 1948, where he delivered the Salutatory Address. Hans graduated Queens College, Queens, NY in the Spring of 1957 majoring in Economics and minor in History.

Prior to his college years, Hans served as a Military Communications Expert in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during the Korean War at the age of 21.

Hans retired in 1987 from General Motors where he had a long and successful career as Director of Shows and Exhibits. This position granted Hans the opportunity to travel the country and Canada. These travels allowed him to meet Hollywood stars, entertainers and politicians at World Fairs, Disney World/Epcot in Florida and Disneyland in California.

Hans's work as Technical Coordinator for Hollywood film maker Bob Rogers, on the Oscar nominated 1982 short industrial film "Ballet Robotique" also won numerous awards and prizes including first prize at the Berlin Film Festival.

In 1984 Hans re-connected with his long lost college sweetheart Hildy Feil. They were wed in Kingston, NY that year. Hans and Hildy enjoyed a long and loving marriage till his passing.

Hans was a member of the Kingston Lions Club and a Freemason.

Hans is survived by his wife Hildy; Step-Children Gayle (O'Connor) Turowski (husband Steve); Brian O'Connor (wife Cindy (Daniels) O'Connor); Diane (O'Connor) Darcy (fiancé Tom Stockhofer). Grandchildren Erin (Turowski) Castiglione (husband Phil); Tara O'Connor; Troy O'Connor; Ariana Darcy; Jillian Darcy; Todd Stockhofer; Logan Stockhoffer. Great Grandchildren Noelle Castiglione; Paxton Castiglione. He is preceded in death by Grandson Kevin O'Connor.

Hans will be remembered as a loving, caring and generous Opa (German for grandfather). His interesting conversation, excellent cooking and general soothing presence will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Calling hours will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 31 at Lasher Funeral Home, 100 Tinker Street, Woodstock, NY. 845-679-7381. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Hans's life. Burial will be a private ceremony at a later date.

We always enjoyed our times spent with Hans, Hildy, and Gayle's family -- he made us feel as if we were part of his family. He will always have a special place in our memories.
