LAGRANGEVILLE - James R. Boyer, Jr., 75, of Lagrangeville, NY died on Dec. 3, 2012 at home after a long illness.

Born November 28, 1937 in Poughkeepsie, NY, he was the son of the late James R. Boyer, Sr. and the late Catherine Henstebeck Boyer. He was employed by IBM as a Systems Analyst, and he worked in Poughkeepsie, Fishkill and Gaithersburgh, Marlyand. He was with IBM for 30 years before his retirement in 1992. He held several jobs after his retirement, including the Mail Room at the CIA in Hyde Park. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1965. He was active in the Democratic Party and ran for county office twice. Jim married Eileen (Holbrook) (Bader) on July 11, 1975, and she survives at home. In addition to his wife Eileen, he is survived by his 5 children and 9 grandchildren: son Paul Bader, III; daughter and son-in-law Christine(Boyer) and Michael Marsh and grandchildren Kateri, Alex, Lizzi and Gabby; daughter and son-in-law Donna(Boyer) and Joseph Schmidt and grandchildren Megan and Johanna; Son and daughter-in-law Jonathan and Jennifer Boyer and grandchildren Abby, Jay and Eli; daughter and son-in-law Jamie(Boyer) and Jeffrey Schline; his brother George Boyer and his wife Cher of Florida; his Aunt Ruth (Boyer) McPartlin; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and numerous cousins and great nieces and nephews. Jim was a 30 year "Life Member of the Wappingers Elks Lodge #2609 and a Past Exalted Ruler (2000-2001). During the last 5 years he served as a Trustee of the Lodge. Over the years Jim held several positions in the Elks Lodge as "Bar Chairman, "Hoop Shoot Chairman" and "Cerebral Palsy Chairman". As the CP Chairman he raised funds to help support CP patients and their families. In his years with the Elks he worked with things involving our youth and their education.

The family would like to thank Hudson Valley Home Care for all their help. They would also like to say a special "Thank You" to Hospice and especially to his Case Manager Julie, his nurse David ,Hospice volunteer Dwight, Social Workers Hanna & Mary. In lieu of flowers or mass cards, memorial donations in Jim's name may be made to one of his favorite funds that provide scholarships for our youth: payable to Elks National Foundation and mailed to Wappingers Elks Lodge#2609, 1195 Route 376, Wappingers Falls, NY 12590. In Memo section please reference Jim Boyer ENF. Calling hours will be held on Friday Dec 7, 2012 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. There will be an Elks Memorial Service at 3:30pm in the funeral home.
