Hopewell Junction - Jean Alesbrook Blauvelt, age 86, of Hopewell Junction, NY and Ferndale, MI died Friday, July 6, 2018. She was born February 24, 1932 in Royal Oak, MI to the late George and Frances (Taylor) Blauvelt.

Jean earned teaching certificates in New York and Michigan and started her career in Ferndale, MI. before moving to Hopewell Junction, NY. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree at Wayne State University, MI., her Master's degree in music at Penn. State and her PhD in education from W.S.U. She last worked in Michigan as Principal of Jefferson Elementary School in Royal Oak. Jean continued her teaching career at the Mahopac School District serving in the Mahopac High School.

Jean served as organist and choir at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fishkill, New York director as well as a Eucharistic Minister. She was also the organist at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Chelsea, NY and served as a substitute organist at many churches within the Hudson Valley.

Jean had also been a patron of the Bardavon Opera House and a member of the East Fishkill Historical Society. She was also an accomplished organist, pianist, cellist, and a published poet. Her writing didn't end with poetry; she also wrote novels. Jean had a great love of the arts and later in life took a passion to forming sculptures from wood. Many of her philanthropic endeavors included finding musical instruments for children in need, rescuing animals, Jean worked extensively with hospice, and supporting artists.

Surviving are her siblings, Patricia Stolman of Ferndale, MI., Richard (Connie) Blauvelt of Southfield, MI., Robert (Dale) Blauvelt of Bartow, FL and William (Sheila) Blauvelt of Ferndale, MI.

A funeral service and interment of ashes will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Fishkill, NY on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 at 2:00 in the afternoon.
