Joseph J. Velletri, Jr.

MILLBROOK - Joseph J. Velletri, Jr., 93, a lifelong resident of Millbrook,NY died Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Sharon Hospital, Sharon, Ct.

Born in Millbrook on July 11, 1920, he was the son of the late Joseph J. Velletri, Sr. and Mary Rotunno.

Joe was graduated from Millbrook Memorial School, Class of 1940. He served his country with the US Army during WW-II from 1942-1945 achieving the rank of Corporal. Joe participated in the Battle of the Bulge, and was recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in action on December 22, 1944. He served in England, France and Germany.

Following WW-II, Joe along with his brother Louis opened Joseph Velletri's Sons, Inc. on Franklin Ave in Millbrook, which is still being run by the family and continues to serve

residents of Millbrook and surrounding towns.

On August 14, 1955 at St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, Joe married Geraldine Higgins. Mrs. Velletri survives at home.

Mr. Velletri was a lifelong parishioner of St. Joseph's Church in Millbrook, St. Joseph's Knights of Columbus, former member of Millbrook Business Association and a former member of Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club. He was also a member of Millbrook VFW Post 9008 and Millbrook American Legion Post 260.

Joe was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife Geraldine, he is survived by his son, Joseph J. Velletri III and his wife Kathleen of Millbrook; his daughter, Judy Velletri and her partner Susan Gregory of Amenia; his grandson, Joseph J. Velletri IV of Newport,RI; his brother, Albert "Bert" Velletri and his wife Mary of Millbrook; his aunt, Theresa A. Rotunno of Millbrook; his sister in law, Barbara Velletri of Millbrook; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Louis J. Velletri.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 5 from 5-8 pm at Allen Funeral Home, 3270 Franklin Ave., Millbrook. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, November 6 at 11 am from St. Joseph's Church, North Ave., Millbrook. Interment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Millbrook.
