Elizabeth C. Reed

POUGHKEEPSIE - Elizabeth Charlotte Reed, 79, a lifelong area resident, passed away on Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Lutheran Care Center.

Born in Poughkeepsie on May 30, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Magnus and Elizabeth (Faith-Tripmacher) Rose. On March 27, 1954, she married her former husband, John M. Reed, who survives in Palm Harbor, FL with his wife Barbara.

Elizabeth was employed in the medical records department at St. Francis Hospital from 1950-1974 and then worked for Dr. Gaetano Cavalaro in Poughkeepsie from 1975 until her retirement in 1990. An avid bowler, Elizabeth also enjoyed trips to Spring Lake, NJ, the horse tracks at Saratoga, and casinos. She enjoyed listening to the music of Frank Sinatra, and was a fan of Brad Pitt.

She is also survived by her children, John J. Reed and his wife Susan Simovich of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, Michael Reed of the Town of Poughkeepsie, Larry Reed of LaGrange, and Julie Reed of Stanfordville; her children's brother, Glen Reed of Salt Point; her roommate at the Lutheran Care Center who became a great friend and like a sister to her, Opie Droumakis and her daughter Gail Oscarlece; and several cousins, nieces and nephews in both the US and Germany. Elizabeth was also predeceased by her parents, her grandson, Rory and her brother, Henry Rose.

The family would like to thank the staff of the 3rd Floor CCU and PCU departments at St. Francis Hospital, Hospice and the staff of the Lutheran Care Center, especially Veronica, Cindy, Sue, Melanie, Nancy, Lisa and too many other wonderful people to mention for their care and compassion. They also thank Bob Martinson for providing wonderful music to all the patients.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 6-9 p.m. at the McHoul Funeral Home, Inc., 895 Route 82, Hopewell Junction. Internment of her ashes will be at Union Cemetery in Hyde Park at 11am on Saturday, May 31, 2014 to be immediately followed by a celebration of her life at 30 Caroline Avenue, Poughkeepsie.
