Romanelli, Sr.

POUGHKEEPSIE - Frank J. Romanelli, Sr., 82, passed away April 13, 2013 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He was born in Poughkeepsie on December 17, 1930 the son of Joseph and Mary Kornaus Romanelli. Frank graduated from Poughkeepsie High School in 1949 where he was a star first baseman for the baseball team. He continued his baseball years playing in the minor leagues and then in the military where he served in the Army Special Forces. Frank was always a 300 hitter and top-notch first baseman. He was inducted into the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. Frank served in the US Army in Special Forces during the Korean War from 1951-1953. He became a Police Officer for the City of Poughkeepsie from 1955 until 1976 when he retired as a lieutenant. He was a 50 year member of the Poughkeepsie PBA where he chaired the Sunshine Committee and a member of St. Joseph's Church and the Italian Center. He is survived by his son Frank J. Romanelli of Poughkeepsie; daughter Michelle Romanelli of Ft. Mill, SC; daughter & son-in-law Arlene Mary & Stephen Spyhalsky of Charlotte, NC; brother Joseph C. Romanelli, Sr. of Melbourne, FL; grandchildren Kyle & Davon and several nieces, nephews & cousins. He was predeceased by his brother Richard Romanelli. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2013 from 4:00-8:00pm at Wm. G. Miller & Son Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday April 19, 2013 at 9:30am at St. Joseph's Church, Lafayette Place, Poughkeepsie, NY. Burial with Military Honors will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
