Greenwood, Indiana - Edward J. Rafter, 81, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2013 in Greenwood, Indiana where he resided with his wife, Mary and other loving family members.

Edward was born on February 10, 1932 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Edward B. Rafter and Kathleen (Caffrey) Rafter. He retired from Central Hudson in 1994 after 38 years of service. He was a parishioner of St. Joachim - St. John the Evangelist Church in Beacon. Ed proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge and the Combat Infantry Badge, Korean Service Medal and two Bronze Stars. Ed married Mary (DeNicolais) Knight on August 8, 1975. She survives at home.

Ed was "just the right fit" in our own family. He was our "Bonus Dad!" Ed loved the New York Yankees and Giants. He enjoyed his wife Mary's Italian cooking along with a glass or two of wine.

In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his daughters, Eileen Medeiros and husband, Larry, Kathleen Simonton and husband, Brad, Donna Maston and husband, Jeff, Denise Knight, Diane Knight and partner, George Norton; his son, Donald Knight and wife, Linda; his grandchildren, Veronica, Matthew and wife, Jennifer, Andrew and wife, Sarah, Jared, Liam, Noel, Casey, Calle, Cody, Dante, Alex, Liam, Brianne, Adam and wife, Michelle; many great grandchildren; his sister, Alice Tancredi; and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Manning and sister, Joan Houtalin.

The family will receive their friends on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joachim Cemetery.
