Beacon - Julia E. Steffanci passed away on Tuesday, November 12, 2013.

Julia was born in Beacon on November 22, 1929, the daughter of Chester Wilson and Myrtle Decker Wilson. Julia retired from the Beacon School District after serving many dedicated years in her position as cook/manager of the Forrestal School.

Julia married her sweetheart, and the center of her world, Ralph, on July 12, 1950. He predeceased her on May 8, 2010. Julia was also predeceased by her father and mother; her step-mother, Rose Wilson; her brothers, Everett and Earl Wilson; her sisters, Grace Plimley, Martha Manetta and Annie Jane Wolinsky.

Julia is survived by her daughter, Julia Dawn Henderson and her husband, Ron of Walden; her sons, Ralph Steffanci and his wife, Susan of Hopewell Junction and Anthony Steffanci and his wife, Heather of Beacon; her four grandchildren, Marcus Steffanci of Beacon, Jonelle Wiand of Walden, Nicole Staskowicz of Wappingers Falls and James Steffanci of Beacon; one great grandson, Gavin Staskowicz of Wappingers Falls; her sisters, Frances Whitney of Highland, Cynthia Wilson-Smith of Beacon and Carrie Gonzalez of Florida; several nieces and nephews.

She will be greatly missed by her family. "Mom was one in a million. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, especially the children; they loved her and her charismatic personality. She was always a source of comfort and support for all she touched, never putting herself first. She had a heart as pure as snow." Her yearbook quote sums up her character thusly: "Her heart as far from fraud as heaven from earth."

The family will receive their friends on Thursday, November 14, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Friday, November 15 from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Halvey Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Willow Street, Beacon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 15 at 11 a.m. at St. Joachim Church, 51 Leonard Street, Beacon.
