Hyde Park - Leta S. Harris, 88, of the Town of Hyde Park, died peacefully November 11, 2014 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. A resident of Dutchess County for almost her entire life, Leta was the mother of five children, four sons and a daughter. In addition to being a mother, she worked throughout her life in various positions at hospitals and nursing homes, and she had been employed with the Mid-Hudson Psychiatric Center for 10 years. Leta was born September 22, 1926 in Oneonta, NY, the daughter of Charles Albert and Hazel Dell (Spencer) Scutt. On February 17, 1946 in Poughkeepsie, she married Alvin W. Harris, her husband of over 60 years. Leta loved gardening and decorating her home and she was her twin sister's best friend. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law David and Suzanne Harris, Pleasant Valley, NY; son and daughter-in-law John and Charlene Harris, Poughkeepsie, NY; son, Gary Harris, Hyde Park, NY and daughter and son-in-law Diane and Louis Romm of Southborough, MA, as well as several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Brian Harris; and her four sisters, including her twin sister Reta. Calling hours will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 from 10:00 to 11:00am at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:00am on Monday, November 17, 2014. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Rt. 9G, Hyde Park, NY beside her husband.
