Seth Nadal Obituary

Seth A. Nadel

HIGHLAND - Seth A. Nadel passed away on December 21, 2014. He was born in Bronx, NY to Max and Fay Nadel. He studied at the High School for Art & Design, and his passion for art brought him to Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture in New York City where he studied with Bernard Phriem, Paul Resika, Wolf Kahn, and Douglas Craft. Because of his love for landscape painters, particularly of the Hudson River School, Seth moved north to Ulster County, NY where he continued pursuing his love of landscape painting. As a successful businessman, Seth also opened and operated Tiger Racquet Club, which subsequently became Tiger's Gold's Gym, in Kingston, NY.

Above all, Seth valued his family. He was a loving spouse, dedicated father and grandfather, beloved uncle and loyal friend to many. He gave to his wife, family and friends a love of life, and he taught his children a profound appreciation for the dailiness of living, to never take for granted each day we have to enjoy and to bring joy to others. And he gave to the Hudson Valley not only a passion for the way the light illuminates the land we love but a way of seeing and living inside the landscape, an art as alive as his heart and love for all.

After leaving Kingston, Seth continued to paint, and he taught painting classes to many through the Barrett Art Center and the Mill Street Loft in Poughkeepsie. He also became the Manager of the Poughkeepsie City Tennis Club and continued to give himself to the Club and community. Seth was well-loved by all who knew him, and he will be remembered for his infinite kindness and generosity. And as an organ donor, his charity continues.

He is survived by his loving wife Patti, his children Laura and Matthew, his daughter-in-law Jessica, his grandson Charles, his sister-in-law Jo Ann, and numerous nieces and nephews who adore him. A private service for Seth's immediate family was held on December 23, 2014 at Wm. G. Miller and Son Funeral Home.

A memorial gathering for Seth Nadel will be held at the Poughkeepsie City Tennis Club on Sunday, January 4, 2015, at 1pm.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wm. G. Miller & Son FH, Inc., 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. If you wish to send an online condolence please visit our website at www.wmgmillerfuneralhome.com

Shocked!! I heard a few days later of his passing by a painting colleague / close friend Crista Pisano. I still remember the first time I met Seth down in Rye at a Rye Artist Paint out!
I was so amazed at his ability to capture a street scene with such remarkable speed and uniqueness! I will always remember the remarks made on my work by Seth.. He always gave positive and creative criticism. Just left the memorial service at the Poughkeepsie tennis club .. My most sincere condolences to your family ..Rest in Peace my O'l Painting Friend.

A great loss to the Hudson Valley, of this very fine artist who influenced many and who gave much of himself, especially to those who love the making and appreciation of art. He will be much missed.

What sad news. Seth and I painted and exhibited together off and on over the past 25 plus years. This is a real loss to our small group of painters carrying the torch of traditional landscape painting.
