Vito F. Dispensa, Jr

Highland, NY - Vito F. Dispensa Jr., 80, of Highland, NY passed away Wednesday, September 9th at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. Vito was born August 28, 1935 in Kingston, NY the son of the late Vito F. Dispensa, Sr. and Marie E. Tantillo.

Vito was an electrician, a longtime member of the IBEW Local Union 363 out of Harriman, NY. He proudly served his country in the US Marines from 1954-1956; his military service would end up being one of his legacies in the Hudson Valley as all flags in Ulster County will be flying at half mast in his honor. On January 6, 1957, he married Martha Attard in St. Augustine's Church in Highland, NY. His loving wife of over 58 years survives him at home. Vito is also survived by his sons John Dispensa and wife Lisa of Highland, NY, Anthony Dispensa and wife Lorraine of Milton, NY, his grandchildren: Kristen, Danielle and Jonni Elizabeth, his sister Elinor Bono, and several nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his daughter Krista Anne Dispensa, his brother Frank Dispensa and his sisters Marilyn Caccarile and Joanne McCarthy.

Vito was the Commander of the American Legion Post #193 out of Highland, NY for the last 6 years and his dedication was second to none as he spent countless hours to not only the surviving veterans but also making sure the veterans who passed away all received their Military Honors with respect and dignity as he worked numerous funeral details all over the area. Vito was also the 1st Vice Commander of the Veterans section in New Paltz Rural Cemetery. He was also an avid outdoorsman being a member of the Lloyd Rod and Gun Club and having been fly fishing all over the country, was very active in local politics, also was 3rd degree Knights of Columbus.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, September 13th from 3pm-8pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, September 14th 10:00 am at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in Highland, NY. Burial will take place at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
