Rumsey

Rhinebeck - Margaret Susan Rumsey, 68, of Rhinebeck, NY, died peacefully at her home on January 19, 2017 with her family and cat by her side after enduring lung cancer and its treatments for more than a year. Born on June 29, 1948, in Poughkeepsie, NY, she was the daughter of the late Vincent Flannery and Agnes (Hartlieb) Flannery.

Margaret grew up on her parents' dairy farm in Stanfordville, NY and graduated from Pine Plains High School in 1966. A 1969 graduate of the St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Poughkeepsie, Margaret worked as a registered nurse at St. Francis Hospital for eight years before starting her family. Margaret ultimately resumed her nursing career at Daytop Village, Inc., where she worked at its various substance abuse treatment facilities in Rhinebeck until she retired in 2014 after nearly 27 years.

When she wasn't working, Margaret spent her life doing the things she loved, including taking care of her donkey and sheep, gardening, traveling and sightseeing, reading, sewing, trying new recipes, going to flea markets, taking pictures, collecting stamps, having lunch with friends, getting together with family and napping.

Known as "Grandma Rosie" to her grandkids and "Aunt Sue" to her extended family, she leaves behind her son Kevin Rumsey, wife Colleen, and their children Caroline and Bobby of East Greenbush, NY; her daughter Karen Cable, husband Brian, and their children Olivia and Caitlyn of Kingston, NY; her sister Josephine Mostaccio and husband Peter of Tivoli, NY, nieces Lynne Heighton, Andrea Lawrence, and Jessica Casey, nephew Eric Mostaccio, six grandnephews and five grandnieces.
