Lida Bertolozzi
Poughkeepsie - Lida Bertolozzi, 81, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 22, 2017. Born in Pontremoli, Italy on October 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Antonio & Luisa Sartori.
Lida came to America with her family when she was 19 yrs old. Upon arriving on the SS Andrea Doria, she began work as a seamstress in the Bronx. One day, her dear cousin, Delio Zani, introduced her to Mario Bertolozzi and the rest is history. What began as a long-distance courtship resulted in a happy 57-year marriage, which started on October 10, 1959, at the Immaculate Conception Church in the Bronx. They decided to start their family in Poughkeepsie where they raised 3 children.
In addition to being a great wife and mom, one of Lida's proudest accomplishments was obtaining her US citizenship in 1972. Over the years, Lida worked for various interior designers. She eventually started her own successful business making custom-made draperies, slipcovers, and bedspreads. She always had the help of her loving husband with delivery & installation of the beautiful pieces of work she created.
Lida kept busy doing the things she loved such as her active involvement in the Italian Center Ladies Auxiliary and weekly Bocci League games, St. Ann's Society, volunteering at St. Francis Hospital, traveling with family & friends, playing cards and computer games, maintaining an active Facebook account, going to the gym, and cooking fabulous meals for her family. Lida's biggest source of joy, though, was spending lots of quality time with her children and grandchildren.
Lida is survived by her loving husband, Mario and one sister, Annette Giuliano, husband Tony of Chestnut Ridge, NY. She is also survived by her children, daughter Louise Bertolozzi Lynch, husband Bob (Poughkeepsie), son Peter Bertolozzi, wife Sharon (Hyde Park), daughter Maria Bertolozzi Hickey, husband Danny (Poughkeepsie). She was affectionately known as "Nonna" to her grandchildren who she also leaves behind. They are Henry Schmitz, Daniel Hickey, Sam Hickey, Lily Hickey, Shannon & Shawn Whalen, Zach Bertolozzi, Maddie Lynch, Mario Hickey, Darleen Bertolozzi and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by several brothers and sisters in-law as well as her many nieces, nephews, and close friends who all loved and adored her so much.
A special thanks to Dr. Asghar Anwar, for the ongoing compassionate care and kindness he provided as her primary care physician. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Lida's memory to Hudson Valley Hospice.
