Christa Cruse

Staatsburg - Christa Cruse (Omi), 91, a longtime resident of Staatsburg, passed into life eternal with her family by her side on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at the Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Born on January 16, 1926, in Fuerstenfelde, Germany, she was the daughter of the late Fritz and Lina (Kaul) Hans. Christa immigrated to the U.S. in January 1955, and on February 20, 1955 she married Bernd Cruse who predeceased her on September 17, 1981.

Christa was a longtime active member of Third Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinebeck and a member of the Rhinebeck AARP. She spent her golden years traveling to various destinations in the U.S. and Europe with groups from the Maennerchor in Kingston and the AARP in Rhinebeck.

She loved raising her children, cooking, reading, and tending her garden. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her family grow. Each new addition was a special blessing. Christa is survived by her loving family, including her son, Richard and his wife Margaret Cruse of Yorktown Heights, NY; her two daughters, Monica and her husband Joseph Gabryszewski of Staatsburg, NY, and Ingrid and her husband Karl Helmer of Lunenburg, MA. She is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Elizabeth and Alex Cruse, Michael and Christopher Gabryszewski, and Natalie, Katherine, and Angelika Helmer. Over the years she also welcomed the many friends of her children and grandchildren into her home for food and fun. The friends of her grandchildren have also come to know her as "Omi".

Friends may call at the Burnett & White Funeral Homes in Rhinebeck on Sunday, February 5th, 2017 from 2 - 4 PM.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Third Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rhinebeck, NY. Burial will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery, Rhinebeck.
