Joseph Martin Dinga Obituary
Dinga, Joseph Martin

Joseph Martin Dinga of Vestal, NY, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 18, 2013 after more than 89 years of beautiful life. He was reunited in heaven with his cherished wife of more than 50 years, Lucy Gennett Dinga, who left this Earth just over two months ago; by his parents, Mary (Sisak) and Joseph Dinga; by his brothers, William Dinga, Rudy Dinga and Robert Dinga; by his sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dinga and Julia Dinga; and by his brother-in-law, V. Louis Gennett. He is survived by his two children, Michael (&Mary Therese) Dinga of LaGrange, KY, and Anthony (&Linda) Dinga of Bristow, VA; by his brothers, John Dinga of Endicott, NY, and Edward Dinga of Oxford, NY; by his sisters-in-law, Linda (&Eli) White of Tampa, FL, Elizabeth Gennett of Baldwinsville, NY, Emelia Dinga of Endwell, NY, and Lenoir Dinga of San Jose, CA. He is also survived by his five beloved grandchildren, Kirk, Samantha, Phoebe, Jackson and Ian; and by many nieces and nephews. Joe was born on July 31, 1924 in Binghamton, NY. After proudly serving in the Army during World War II from March of 1943 until February of 1946 and receiving his honorable discharge, Joe went on to obtain his high school diploma from Union-Endicott High School. At an early age, Joe developed a passion for golf that would stay with him for the rest of his life. From caddying as a youngster, to sitting by the first tee at the B.C. Open, Joe had an endless love affair with En-Joie Golf Course. Joe's passion led him to focus on helping others to learn and enjoy the game, first as the assistant pro at En-Joie Golf Course and Vestal Hills Country Club, and then as the head pro at golf courses in Sydney, NY, and Montrose, PA. Joe established the Joe Dinga Golf School and Indoor Range in Endicott, NY, taught adult education classes for years throughout the Triple Cities, and gave countless lessons in his own backyard-or just about anywhere else-to introduce the sport to as many people as he could. Joe spent many of his retirement days watching the Golf Channel and the New York Yankees on television and, with his wife, Lucy, delighting in the accomplishments of their sons and their families, especially those of their grandchildren both on and off the athletic fields. Joe's family will always remember his stories of growing up on Robble Avenue and his love of golf and passion to teach others. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home, 1905 Watson Blvd., Endicott, NY on Sunday, November 24 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, November 25 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Parish, 306 Odell Avenue, Endicott, NY. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Johnson City, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford, NY.
