Ada Louise (Semelsberger) Elwood Obituary
Ada Louise Elwood (Semelsberger)

Johnson City - passed away on March 29, 2018 after a short illness. She is survived by her five children, including two daughters, Carolyn Semrow of Texas, Tracy (Brian) Miller of Utah, and three sons, Michael Elwood of Florida, Tony (Ann) Elwood of New York/Florida, and Rick (Barbara) Elwood Sr. of New York, as well as 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. At the age of 90, Ada will rejoice with Our Lord at her side along with her husband, Jerry, and their granddaughter, Shannon Elwood. Ada was born on November 22, 1927 in Patton, Pennsylvania, the daughter of James and Ada Agnus Semelsberger. Ada attended St. Mary's Catholic School in her youth, graduating from Patton High School. Ada moved to Johnson City, NY where she met her husband, Jerry Elwood, and they were married in April 1952. Ada worked for The Sun Oil Corporation for ten years and then spent twenty years at New York State Electric and Gas in the Research and Development department, working in the area of energy/wind conservation. On windy days, Ada could be seen driving an electric car across the terrain as she checked on "her" windmills. In her spare time, Ada was involved in many community and church activities. She was a Member, Director, Officer and then President of the Binghamton-Johnson City-Endicott Women's Bowling Association, which had over 10,000 members. In 1996, Ada was elected to the Women's Bowling Association Hall of Fame. Ada's extended family, the Town of Union Planning Board, was the joy of her life where she served for over 40 years. Ada could be heard over the years fighting for surveys, variances, signage, property lines and rain water runoff issues. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Tuesday, at 10:00am, at the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis Street, Endwell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 4:00pm-6:00pm at the Barber Memorial Home, 428 Main St, Johnson City. Ada has requested that memorial donations be made to Mercy House of the Southern Tier, 212 North McKinley Avenue, Endicott, NY 13760.
