of NicholsAndrew Katchuk, 84, of E. River Rd., Nichols, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 2, 2003 in Allentown, Pa. Andrew was born on October 18, 1918 in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., a son of the late Harry and Theresa (Potocky) Katchuk. Andrew attended school in Newark Valley and following his education assisted his family with the operation of the family dairy farm. In 1942, Andy was drafted into the military where he proudly served his country with the US Army Air Corp until an honorable discharge in 1945. On August 29, 1942, he married the former Irene Moore and they made Nichols their home. Andy retired in 1984 as Assistant Plant Manager for the Endicott Johnson Corporation following 47 years of service. Andy was a founding member of the Nichols Baptist Church, a member of the VFW Post 1371, Owego. He enjoyed spending time gardening, fishing and riding his Ford Tractor although his greatest enjoyment was being with his family. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Irene (Moore) Katchuk; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Deanna Katchuk, Gettysburg, Pa; Larry and Charlene Katchuk, Nichols; a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Dale Bennett, Schnecksville, Pa; brothers, Edward Cathy Katchuk, Endicott, Anthony Peggy Katchuk, Safety Harbor, Fla; sister-in-law, Vera Katchuk, Flemingville, N.Y.; his special grandchildren, Christina and her husband Matthew, Tricia and her husband Ricardo, Michael, Jim and his wife Nicole, Lauren, Meredith, and Sarah; five great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Aubrey, Madison, Cassandra, R.J.; and several nieces and nephews. Andy was predeceased by his brothers, John, George and Joseph.
Funeral services and a celebration of Andy's life will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2003, at 3pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Pastor Steven E. Park and Pastor Douglas Hammett, officiating. Interment will follow in the Nichols Cemetery. The family will receive their friends Friday, October 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral chapel, and on Saturday, October 4, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral chapel.
