Johnson City - Anthony John Stepneski, 93, of Johnson City passed away on Tuesday March 13, 2018 at Wilson Memorial Hospital. He was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on June 4, 1924. Tony was predeceased by his parents Anthony and Anna Stepniewski, brothers Raymond, Phillip and Edward, and his beloved wife of 65 years Isabelle. He is survived by his sister Mary Cahill, children David (Jorene) Stepneski, Janet (Kirk) Jackson, Mark (Alice) Stepneski, 8 grandchildren, Erin (David) Ewart, Lauren (Thomas) Winkler, Kristin Stepneski, Timothy Jackson, Malia Jackson (Noah Snyder), Andrew Stepneski, Mary (Charles) Tye, and Nick Stepneski, 4 great grand children Brennan & Colson Ewart, Jackson & Benjamin Winkler, special niece Diane Stepneski and several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.Anthony was a World War II veteran serving in the European Theatre 80th Division and was wounded on September 7, 1944 at Pont a Mousson France receiving a Purple Heart.He was a member of the Holy Spirit Byzantine Church and a retired employee of IBM. Tony enjoyed doing puzzles, gardening, doing masonry, building furniture and eating out. He also liked to talk about his military service and wrote a memoir, part of which was published in the book "One Hell of a War: General Patton's 317th Infantry Regiment in World War II". The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Wilson ER, EMT's and other emergency personnel who came to Anthony's assistance. A Funeral service will be offered 10:00 AM Monday March 19, 2018, at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc. 150 Main Street, Johnson City, New York. Burial will be in Holy Spirit Cemetery at a later date. Friends may call at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home Monday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service. Friends wishing may make memorial donations to a in memory of Anthony J. Stepneski.
