Arlene Nancy Engle (Craw)

Vestal - 85, passed away at Wilson Hospital on Wednesday, August 15, 2018. Arlene was born on July 12, 1933 in Kingston NY to the late Erwin Emery Craw and Dorothy Alice (Emmett) Craw. Arlene is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Robert H Engle; three sons David and Elizabeth Engle of Vestal NY, Stephen and Ann Engle of Binghamton NY, Paul Engle of Brockton MA; seven grandchildren Teresa and Andrew Ilnicki of Midlothian, VA, Sarah and Dr. Joseph Scordino of Rockport, ME, Dr. Robert and Dr. Amanda Engle of Glenville, NY, Thomas Engle and his fiancee Chelsea Hagerbaumer of Cohoes NY, Daniel Engle of Morristown NJ, Ella Engle of Lowell, MA, Emilia Engle of Brockton MA; six great grandchildren Siena Scordino, Emmett Ilnicki, Joseph Scordino, David Scordino, Louisa Ilnicki, and Elizabeth Ilnicki. Also holding a special place in her heart are Natalia Gudz, Sarah Madison, Markus Rohwetter and Kimberley Engle, as well as members of Grace Point Church and Binghamton General Hospital Auxiliary. Arlene graduated from Kingston High School in 1951 where she was a soloist in the acapella choir. She worked at the New York Telephone company until her marriage to Robert in 1956. After raising their three sons, she worked at Marine Midland Bank. Arlene enjoyed serving her church community, especially the Senior Saints trips at Grace Point Church. She also enjoyed arts, crafts and developed a flair for ceramics. Arlene loved spending time with her family, traveling, attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and recitals and healing their ailments with her special cold blueberry soup. She never forgot the birthdays and anniversaries of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Outside of her family, her most proud accomplishment was 43 years of volunteer service to the Binghamton General Auxiliary. In 2009 she was awarded the Sterling Award for her service to the organization, and in 2016 she was recognized for over 7000 hours of service. The family would like to thank the Wilson Hospital staff in the ICU, North Tower 2, South Tower 5 as well as the Palliative Care Unit for their compassionate care of Arlene. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, at 11:00am, at the Grace Point Church, 3701 Vestal Road, Vestal. The family will receive friends on Monday, from 9:00am until the time of the service at Grace Point Church. What a wonderful lady. I am saddened to hear of her passing. I feel blessed to have met her and wished I could have spent more time to get to know her. My heartfelt condolences to the family.
